I hope you can make ACORN Nottingham's next branch meeting, which will be taking place on Thursday 14th August at 7pm - if you are a member or thinking of joining, please get in contact for the location.
Top of the agenda: fighting the evictions at Warwick House, Warwick Mount, and Warwick Towers on Mansfield Road.
The campaign to keep the Mansfield Road residents in their homes has been a key activity for our union over recent weeks - bolstered by growing support in the community, expressed strongly in the excellent public letter by Nadia Whittome MP.
If you can't make the meeting but would like to get involved, the next action will be a protest on Tuesday 19th August at 11.30am, meeting at Warwick Mount, Mansfield Road, NG5 2DQ. It is growing ever more urgent for members to get involved in this vital campaign for our city so please try to attend if at all possible.
ACORN Nottingham has also been campaigning to get Nottingham City Council to change its policy of using private bailiffs against residents who fall into council tax arrears, and move to a more supportive approach (as used by various other local authorities).
As part of this campaign, we will be coordinating a response from members and supporters to the government's consultation on 'modernising and improving the administration of council tax', which includes questions about enforcement. These consultations can often be complex to respond to as individuals, but it is crucial that our voice is heard loud and clear, and that will only happen if we all respond collectively.
We hope to see you there on Thursday!
