Can parents and carers please remind their children not to use the playground on The Square while work on the new surfacing is being completed. Thank you šŸ™

Great news!

The playground on The Square is getting an upgrade - brand new surfacing šŸ’š

Work starts tomorrow (Friday 5th June) and will continue through to the end of next week.

During that time, the park will be out of use while the new surface is laid.

Thank you for your patience while the work is completed and please remind your children the park is out of bounds for the next week or so.

This is a significant investment in our village, and in the safety and enjoyment of our youngest residents for years to come šŸ™Œ

We’ll update you once the work is completed šŸ™

*Budget and precept increase*

We would like to address the concerns of some residents in regard to the increase in the precept (the parish council’s share of council tax).

The council considered its budget at the council meeting held on 13th January.

The council considered its overall financial position and the projects it would like to achieve in the coming financial year, including the necessary refurbishment of the safety surface matting in the play park (to be funded using some of the council’s funds and S106 developer contributions from local housing developments) and upgrades to the Christmas lights display.

With the above in mind the council resolved to increase its precept from £20,000 a year to £30,000 a year.

The parish council reduced its precept from £25,000 to £20,000 in the 2023/24 financial year, and this is the first increase since then.

It represents a £13.43 increase per year (or 26p per week) for a Band D property (from £26.86 to £40.29).

The average parish precept charged nationally for the 2025-26 financial year was Ā£92.22 so Bestwood Village’s precept remains significantly below the national average.

The parish council values feedback from community members and our next public meeting is at St Mark’s Church on Tuesday 14th April at 7pm.
