U3A Wollaton

U3A Wollaton u3a Wollaton, Nottingham
A group of people from Wollaton and surrounding areas in the "third age" of life who come together to learn, laugh, live .

Welcome to Wollaton U3A
We are a relatively new u3a, starting in January 2019, but through the enthusiasm of our membership, have rapidly grown to over 200 members. There are currently some 25 Interest Groups covering a wide variety of topics and we are always looking to start new groups if you have an interest that we do not already cover. In “normal times” our monthly meetings are held at St. L

eonard’s Community Centre on the 4th Tuesday of every month, but under current restrictions ALL MEETINGS ARE HELD BY ZOOM. This is normally when we get together with other members to have a coffee and a chat, discuss any U3A business and usually listen to a guest speaker. For details of future speakers, please see the events page on our website. The Monthly Meeting allows us to meet in an informal atmosphere to enjoy each other’s company, have a coffee and a chat. The more formal part of the meeting allows us to update u3a business and listen to a guest speaker on a wide range of subjects. Also, we have a Coffee Morning on the first Friday of the month, which gives members an opportunity to socialise over coffee. Non-members are welcome to join our Coffee Mornings to find out about our u3a and our activities. There is a variety of Interest Groups, details of which can be found on the “Groups” page. u3a’s ethos is “for the members, by the members” – we aim to bring people from different backgrounds together to exchange views, share skills and learn from each other whilst having fun and enjoying ourselves. Our logo is:

LEARN, LAUGH, LIVE

Thank you for visiting our page. Enjoy discovering what we have to offer, and we look forward to welcoming you to our u3a. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BECOME A MEMBER
Please download and print the Membership form 2021 from the website and complete your details. Alternatively, you can contact the Membership Secretary using the “Contact” page on the website, or telephone 0756 396 5968 leaving your name, a message and telephone number. We will get back to you. Once COVID-19 restrictions are over, just come to one of our Monthly Meetings or Coffee Mornings where you will be made very welcome.

"George and Ira Gershwin" by Roger Browne 🎹🎻🎺

Brothers George and Ira Gershwin were born in New York but their grandfather came from Odesa in Ukraine. George’s music and Ira’s words were to provide us with hundreds of popular songs and one of the most important American operas - Porgy and Bess.
This is the story of their life and their phenomenal contribution to American music.

On Monday 8th June,19 members of Wollaton u3a had a day out on the Nottingham canal. We were hosted by the Nottingham Narrow Boat Project.
We set out on their two narrow boats Megan and Tinks. Our skippers were husband and wife Ben and Sally, ably assisted by their crew, Saul and Pete.Members had an opportunity to work the locks and steer the boats.
We motored down to Beeston Rylands passing through Castle Lock. Luckily the weather was kind to us and we could sit outside and watch the wildlife and other boats on the canal. After a short stop at Beeston Rylands to refuel on coffee and cake at the Heritage cafe, it was time to return to Nottingham.A good time was had by all.
