It's been a busy half term for our Norfolk co-responders!

Calum, Tom, Katie, Sam, Kristian and Andy have been out on shifts throughout the week, collectively giving up over 100 hours responding to patients on behalf of East of England Ambulance Service. They attended a wide range of calls and worked alongside various other emergency services such a police, fire, critical care teams and our fellow volunteers NARS.
On Wednesday Katie, Sam and Tom visited the Emergency Operations Centre, getting to see behind the scenes of a 999 call. They spoke to some of the call handlers, dispatchers and clinicians that coordinate care for people that call 999.
On Thursday the team came together for their fortnightly training session, covering all things CPR including some great casualty simulation.
To wrap up the week Konran and Harrison have been on their Ambulance Response Car blue light driving course and will soon be out on the road!

Teams will be out again throughout next week so don't forget to give them a wave if you see them about!

As we wrap up the Bank Holiday weekend, a big shoutout to our volunteers out on duty today 💚

Katie and Calum are currently on shift and have already had a busy start - they’re continuing to support the community right through until 20:00.

We’re proud to be launching a Co-Responding pilot right here in Norfolk — with the very first operational shift taking place today 🚑

As part of this new initiative, volunteers from St John Ambulance will respond to 999 calls on behalf of East of England Ambulance Service. They’ll provide an initial response, early clinical assessment, and vital early interventions when it matters most.

While co-responding isn’t new, this pilot represents something special for us. For the first time, our Volunteer Emergency Responders will be crewing alongside Emergency Ambulance Crews in a response car — gaining hands-on experience, building confidence, and delivering real impact for patients across our communities.

Most importantly, this is what volunteering is all about: using skills, knowledge, and compassion to help save lives 💚
