No idea what to write? Start somewhere weird. ✍️

That’s the kind of approach we use at Creative Writing Club to help young writers get past the blank page and start having fun with ideas.

Through playful prompts, games and creative exercises, children can experiment with words, build confidence and see where their imagination takes them, without the pressure of having to get it “right”.

Creative Writing Club continues at Bookbugs and Dragon Tales until half term, with sessions for ages 7–11 and 11+.

Fresh TOAST is all about giving new poets space to try things, take risks and see what happens when work moves from the page to the stage.

On Saturday, 20 poets joined us for our Dev Day: a full day of writing, workshops, experimentation and performance. And it was wonderful 💛

Our Dev Day was the next step in a process that will see a small selection of poets take to the stage at Norwich Theatre Stage Two on 8 November for a show of fresh poetry from new voices. Which we think is VERY exciting.

Fresh TOAST has been taking shape behind the scenes 🍞

It started with an open call for emerging poets, followed by our Dev Day, where 20 poets came together for workshops, writing, experimenting and exploring how their work could live on stage.

From that group, three poets will go on to perform at Fresh TOAST this November, with rehearsal still to come before they take over Norwich Theatre Stage Two.

We’ll be sharing more from the process over the next few weeks, but for now, swipe through to see how Fresh TOAST gets from open call to live show 💛

Creative Writing Club continues at Bookbugs and Dragon Tales through October ✏️

This one’s for the kids who love inventing characters, making up worlds, scribbling down weird ideas and seeing where they go.

The sessions are relaxed, playful and dyslexia-friendly, with plenty of room to experiment without worrying about getting everything “right”.

There are groups for 7–11s on Wednesdays and 11+ on Tuesdays, with more sessions running throughout October at Bookbugs and Dragon Tales.

£6.50 per session, and you can come along to one, a few or all of them.

It’s National Poetry Day, so what better day to announce some brand new bits of TOAST? 💛

Two very different poetry shows are heading to Norwich Theatre!

First up, Fresh TOAST lands at Stage Two on Sunday 8 November at 5pm, hosted by Lewis Buxton and bringing three brand new voices to the stage. Selected through TOAST’s open application and development programme, these are poets with something properly exciting to say, sharing new work and new ideas in a night all about discovering emerging voices.

Then on Sunday 24 January at 5pm, we’re back at The Playhouse for another big night of live poetry. Expect big names, big voices and even bigger feelings, all packed into one high-energy show.

And with both shows kicking off at 5pm, you get a full night of poetry and then *could* be back in your PJs by 8pm. Whether you know your poetry inside out or haven’t been near it since school, there’s something here for you.

Both shows are pay what you can afford, with £10 / £15 / £20 tickets, so pick your TOAST and come join us 🍞

Creative writing without the red pen ✏️

Our Dyslexia Friendly Creative Writing Club is back next week, with the first autumn sessions happening on Tuesday 22nd September at Bookbugs and Dragon Tales.

There’s no need for perfect spelling, ‘good’ handwriting or loads of writing experience. Our club is about playing with ideas, building confidence and getting creative without worrying about getting everything right.

Pens, paper, squash and biscuits are all provided, and sessions are led by experienced workshop leaders with DBS checks and safeguarding training.

7–11yrs: Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30pm
11+yrs: Tuesdays, 4pm-5pm

£6.50 per session

You can come to one, a few or all five sessions across September + October.

Meet our TOASTies x Norwich Book Festival guest: Attie Lime! 🍓

Joining us at The Forum, Norwich this October is poet Attie Lime, author of Poems on Toast and Blue Jelly and Strawberries: Poems to Tickle Your Tastebuds.

Attie writes playful, funny and imaginative poems packed with wordplay, nonsense and plenty of things you probably weren’t expecting to find in a poem. Think doughnut trees, ping-pong peas, mercats and, naturally, blue jelly and strawberries. 🍩🫛

A former teacher, Attie now writes and shares poetry in schools, book groups and at festivals, encouraging young people to have fun with words and let their imaginations run wild.

You can catch Attie at our special TOASTies pop-up as part of Norwich Book Festival. Expect poems, performance and a very silly afternoon of words.

Creative Writing Club is back for September and October! ✏️

Our Dyslexia Friendly Creative Writing Club returns to Bookbugs and Dragon Tales this autumn, with separate sessions for ages 7–11 and 11+.

Whether your child already loves writing, finds it tricky, or just wants somewhere to play with ideas without worrying about getting everything “right”, they’re very welcome.

⏰ 11+yrs: Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30pm | 22nd, 29th, Sept & 6th, 13th, 20th Oct
⏰ 7-11yrs: Wednesdays, 4pm-5pm | 23rd, 30th Sept & 7th, 14th, 21th Oct
