🌿 Exciting News for Norfolk! 🌿

We’re delighted to announce that Norfolk Ponds Project CIC has been awarded funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to launch our new pilot project:

💧 A Pond for Every Parish

Thanks to the National Lottery, this funding will help us work with communities to create and restore ponds that support wildlife, improve biodiversity, and connect people with nature across Norfolk.

This is a huge step forward in helping communities thrive while protecting valuable freshwater habitats for future generations.
A massive thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for believing in our vision — and to everyone who supports our work.

Norfolk Ponds Project are out this week monitoring ponds as part of the DLL programme with
This pond is full of life—caddisfly, dragonfly & damselfly nymphs, water beetles, and even a water stick insect.
Reed bunting nearby and a brown hare in the field 🐇
No great crested newts detected again, but plenty to suggest a healthy aquatic ecosystem 🌱

🌏It’s and with the theme for this year being ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, we’re shining a light on all of our inspirational volunteers who give up valuable time to help with projects.
Our volunteers work tirelessly, from removing scrub from overgrown farm , letting the light into these darkened pits, to the careful creation of hibernation log piles for amphibians, providing the power to make our work a success.
In the same way local villagers would have celebrated the original marl pit excavations in days gone by, volunteering provides the opportunity to reconnect with the farm ponds. Undertaking the hard physical activity amongst new friends is restorative for mind and soul. There is nothing quite like working together, sharing a great sense of achievement at the end of the day.
So this Earth Day, we give a big thank you to our volunteers to whom we owe so much. If you are keen to give one day of your time to volunteer on a pond restoration this Autumn, or you would like to help in other ways, just drop us a DM.

Clocks go forward this weekend! ⏰➡️
As British Summer Time begins, we lose an hour — but gain longer, lighter evenings and a real sense that spring is here.
🌿 Nature is waking up and becoming more active:
🐸 Amphibians are on the move, heading to ponds to breed.
🦆 Birds are nesting and raising young, making wetlands full of life and sound.
🐝 Pollinators begin to emerge, helping plants and wildflowers thrive.
🌼 Plants burst into growth, fuelled by increasing daylight.
At the Norfolk Ponds Project, this is one of the most important times of year — when healthy ponds support breeding wildlife and new life begins.
💚 As the clocks go forward, it’s the perfect time to get outside, enjoy the extra daylight, and reconnect with nature.

Happy Weekend!

Did you know ponds are among the most important habitats for wildlife in the UK? From frogs and newts to insects and plants, these small freshwater ecosystems are bursting with life.

Our work focuses on restoring and protecting ponds across Norfolk, helping to reverse biodiversity loss and create thriving spaces for nature. Just a few things you could do to help:

💧 Create a wildlife-friendly pond or water feature
🌱 Support local nature projects
👀 Take time to explore and appreciate the nature around you.

🌳 Spotted at Whitlingham Country Park.

They’re doing a lot of tree work and scrub clearance, and have built this tidy dead-hedge style barrier around an area they don’t want the public in.
👉 Do you think this kind of tidy dead hedge actually works better, or does it just look nicer?
👉 Have you tried building wildlife-friendly barriers like this yourself?
👉 Any tips for making brush piles both useful and attractive?
Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences.
