Ronnie’s future looks a whole lot brighter today…

On the evening of the Summer Solstice, NANAS trustee Neil Featherby and friend Chas set off from Felthorpe with one goal in mind: to help Ronnie the Rottweiler receive the urgent eye surgery he desperately needs.

Their challenge was simple in theory. Travel across Norfolk through the shortest night of the year and arrive at Cromer Pier in time to welcome the Solstice sunrise.

The reality was slightly different.

Missed signposts, unexpected detours and several phone calls from Steph Jones informing them that they had once again gone the wrong way made for a memorable night. At one point, while wandering around near Blickling Hall Church in the darkness with backpacks and head torches, they were even mistaken for ghost hunters!

Despite all of that, Neil and Chas still made it to Cromer Pier an hour ahead of schedule.

Although the sunrise itself never appeared thanks to thick cloud cover, it was still a very special moment. Waiting at the finish were Lynsey, Steph and all the dogs, making the end of the journey even more memorable.

A huge thank you also goes to Steve and Tina Wilde, who got out of bed in the early hours to greet the team at the pier with refreshments, and to Karen Grapes, whose support and encouragement throughout the challenge was greatly appreciated.

Most importantly, thanks to the incredible generosity of supporters, friends and local animal lovers, a fantastic £2,025 has been raised for Ronnie’s treatment.

While Ronnie will sadly lose one eye, the operation will remove his pain and give vets the best possible chance of saving the sight in the other.

NANAS was proud to contribute £500 towards that total, helping ensure Ronnie can now receive the surgery he urgently needs.

This challenge was never really about miles.

It was about a dog who needed help.

Thanks to an amazing community of people, Ronnie will now get the treatment he deserves.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, encouraged and supported the challenge along the way.

You have genuinely changed a life.

Good luck Ronnie - we’re all rooting for you.

Slowly taking shape.

Volunteers have been spending time clearing, digging and preparing parts of the garden at Ailwyn Hall as our Wildlife Habitat Pilot continues to grow.

What was once an underused outdoor space is gradually becoming somewhere residents can enjoy birdsong, colour, flowers and nature - while also creating new habitats for wildlife and pollinators.

Community projects like this only happen because people give up their time to help others.

Huge thank you to everyone who has come along to help so far.

We’ll be back again this Sunday (10am-3pm) for the next volunteer day as we continue planting and building the space together.

If you’d like to get involved - even for an hour - we’d love to see you there.

An incredible double marathon achievement - congratulations Lou! 🌻

A huge congratulations to Lou Hurr, who has now completed the Cape Town Marathon in an incredible 3:43:17 👏

What makes this even more impressive is that Lou achieved this just four weeks after running the London Marathon - an extraordinary effort both physically and mentally.

Throughout both marathon journeys, Lou has been raising awareness and support for NANAS, helping shine a light on animal welfare and the importance of community support 💛

Lou also continues to run in memory of her little sister, a veterinary nurse, carrying a sunflower 🌻 with her every step of the way.

Lou - we are so grateful for your dedication, kindness and determination. Thank you for choosing to support NANAS through these amazing challenges.

A shallow bowl of water could save a life this week…

During hot weather, wildlife can struggle to find safe, clean water. Birds, hedgehogs, bees and other garden visitors all need extra help staying hydrated.

A simple dish of fresh water placed in a quiet, shaded spot can make a real difference.

If you can, add a few pebbles or stones so smaller creatures and insects can climb out safely.

A few quick tips:
➡️ Refresh water daily
➡️ Keep bowls shallow where possible
➡️ Place away from areas where cats may hide
➡️ Add a stick or stone for insects and small animals

Small acts of kindness help support the wildlife sharing our communities - especially during periods of extreme heat.

Thank you to everyone looking out for local animals this summer.

Today, we continue building something really special at Ailwyn Hall Care Home.

What started as an overgrown outdoor space is slowly becoming a wildlife-friendly garden filled with colour, scent and nature - somewhere residents living with dementia can sit peacefully, watch birds and butterflies, and enjoy time outdoors with family and friends.

But we still need help.

Even if you can only spare an hour today, it would make a genuine difference.

We’re looking for volunteers to help with planting, painting, clearing and creating wildlife habitats as part of our community-led Wildlife Habitat Pilot.
