Little Lifts

Little Lifts We’re on a mission to provide a free Little Lifts Box to every breast cancer patient in the UK 💕 WHAT IS A LITTLE LIFTS BOX?

OUR FOUNDER’S STORY
In 2014, at the age of 28, Oa was diagnosed with primary breast cancer. Leading up to and during her chemotherapy treatment, Oa was fortunate to have a support network of friends and family to help her along the way – lifting those down days with a few little treats to relieve some of the side effects she experienced. The impact these small tokens had on Oa’s wellbeing was huge

, and so the concept of Little Lifts was born. WHY LITTLE LIFTS
In the UK, 55,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every year, and 400 men. Our mission is to support everyone who faces treatment for breast cancer, by giving them a Little Lifts Box at the start of, or during, their treatment. Little Lifts Boxes are full of specially selected items to help alleviate some of the side effects that may be experienced during breast cancer treatment. Our hope is that they have a positive impact on emotional wellbeing during what can often be a difficult time. HOW WE WORK
We support people undergoing treatment for breast cancer by giving them a Little Lifts Box.
- In the East of England, our hospital partnerships ensure that every eligible person is given a Little Lifts Box.
- Elsewhere in the UK, people can apply to The Little Kindness Fund to access a Box (www.littlelifts.org.uk/get-a-box)

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
“I found listening to the long list of side-effects chemotherapy could cause very difficult. The Little Lifts Box helped me to get ready for action and gave me a feeling of solidarity knowing that other women had trodden the same path before me and managed it.” Liz, Little Lifts beneficiary

Meet wonderful Emma, who received her Little Lifts Radiotherapy and Surgery Box through our hospital partner, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2024 🎁

We first met Emma after her lovely daughter, Harper, chose to fundraise for our small charity with her brilliant crafts - raising £485!

Emma was diagnosed with a grade 2 ductal carcinoma just two days before her wedding day. She said, 'It was a very difficult and emotional situation to overcome, but we had the most special day filled with so much love and togetherness.' Just 12 hours after the wedding, she had a full-body radiation scan. Around 4 weeks after her diagnosis, she underwent a lumpectomy and breast reduction on her other breast. She then went on to have 3 weeks of daily radiotherapy treatment.

More about Emma:

"I have an amazing husband who has been by my side day and night, and a beautiful, strong daughter who has set up a business to help raise money for Little Lifts after seeing what joy it can bring to others.

I love animals and have a cat and a pony. I also work for Redwings Horse Sanctuary, so animals are very much a part of my life. I get this from my wonderful mum, who has many animals herself. I really love spending time with friends and family, and I am so grateful for all the support they have given me and my family."

Emma's Top tips:
⭐ When you're ready connect with others, it makes a difference
⭐ Have time for you
⭐ Go at your own pace, everyone’s journey is not the same

💕 What do you do at Little Lifts?

"Trish volunteers twice a month doing Box packing and gives speeches about her experience of cancer. Leon volunteers as a driver for hospital deliveries. We also both help with events such as awareness stands."

💕 What is your favourite thing about volunteering at Little Lifts?

"Trish's favourite thing about volunteering at Little Lifts is thinking about other cancer patients, knowing how they benefit from the love and thoughtfulness of Little Lifts. Leon's is meeting and working with staff and volunteers."

💕 If you had to describe Little Lifts in three words, what would they be?

"We would both describe Little Lifts as warm, kind and compassionate."

💕 Why do you volunteer at Little Lifts?

"Trish volunteers because, having been a recipient of a Radiotherapy Box, she knows what it feels like to be thought of in such a loving way at such a sad and low point in her life. Leon volunteers to continue supporting Trish and being involved with such lovely people."

It's Volunteers' Week, which calls for a HUGE celebration of these superstars 🥳 Please join us to say a thank you for their dedication, love and time spent supporting others! 🥰

Our volunteers are at the very core of Little Lifts, and we simply couldn't do what we do without them. Each has joined the Little Lifts family for different reasons, and 80% of them have been impacted by our work.

Their belief, understanding, and kindness help provide the best possible support. From packing Boxes, prepping for Packing Parties and driving our van, to delivering talks, reviewing applications and fundraising support - they quite literally do it all! What is so special is the joy and buzz they bring to our community.

Each act of kindness is essential and is how we have gifted nearly 45,000 Little Lifts Boxes to date.

We love and appreciate you all! 💕
