The 2nd Admission on Monday was Olive weighing 605g.
Olive had been spotted on a wildlife camera with a very swollen back leg and the finders were concerned so sought advice. They then spent a few days waiting for her to reappear so they could scoop her up.
On quick examination, Olive also had a wound on her side/head which had already become infected but other than this, and her leg , her body condition was good.
Olive was given pain relief and antibiotics before any further examination to ensure she was comfortable as could be.
After a shallow anti bacterial bath , I was able to look at her leg and was shocked and saddened to see how swollen and infected that it was. So much so that I'm not going to share a picture.
My gut was telling me there was nothing more i could do but I spoke with another rescue and Olive visited a vet .... Both agreed there was nothing more that could be done. Olives whole leg was infected , right to the bone. Her other wound was also really deep and infected . So the kindest thing was to let her sleep forever.
What happened to Olive , I do not know . But , I do know she was a warrior , a fighter, right to the end.
Thankyou to the finders and everyone else for helping Olive sleep without pain π
