Rotary Club of Norwich UK The Rotary Club of Norwich celebrated its centenary in 2022 & we're still going strong! Our motto for this year is 'CREATE LASTING IMPACT' !

We meet on the 1st, 3rd & 5th Thursday of each month at the George Hotel, NR2 2DA Tel: 01603 617841 These are some of our on going |& most recent projects:

*Rotary Club Of Norwich UK works with organisations in Australia, America and Ghana helping to build and maintain an all-inclusive school in Ho, Ghana

*Lend With Care: Supporting the third world lending scheme
*Exchange visits with our twin clubs in Nice (France), Koblenz (Germany) & Novi Sad (Serbia)

*Provision of free taxi/transportation service annually at the Royal Norfolk Show *Providing Shelter Boxes & cash to areas affected by natural disasters (floods & earthquakes) & to man-made disasters (war, oppression & torture) e.g. in Ukraine, Gaza etc.

*Supporting the eradication of Polio (only 3 cases left in Afghanistan & 2 cases in Pakistan until 2024 when one child in Gaza, contacted the disease as a baby). Rotary has been a key global player in the eradication of Polio

*Supporting Youth Development schemes with rewards for Young Chefs, Young Environmentalists & Youth Leadership

* Completed 2014: Funding the building of a new cooking facility, using eco-friendly, safe ‘rocket’ cooking stoves at the Guardians’ Shelter, Dedza Hospital, Malawi

* Completed 2022: Raising over £100,000 to deliver the ‘Cuppa Care’ Bus Project in conjunction with others aimed at visiting local communities and addressing the problems of loneliness in Norfolk

Last night we welcomed Ashley Grote, Master of Music at Norwich Cathedral, who entertained us with the enthralling story of his life & many achievements. Starting at a very young age as a chorister at King's College Cambridge, Ashley went on to a music scholarship, became a Cambridge organ scholar & a young musician of the Year. Ashley has played the organ and led youth choirs all over the world, including Cape Town, Australia & the Costa del Sol & even participated on Masterchef! Alongside all of this, Ashley has competed in rhe London Marathon to raise money for Great Ormond Street hospital, where his daughter has undergone several surgeries for a brain tumour. A life to be proud of - thank you Ashley!

Our club & Wroxham Bure Valley Rotary sold purple crocus corms to mark World Polio Day 2026.
Polio is a debilitating disease which used to affect over 300,000 people annually, mostly children, worldwide. Through the efforts of Rotary International together with partner organisations, that figure has been reduced to less than 100 per year. So far this year there have been only 40 of wild polio, 5 in Pakistan and 35 in Afghanistan.

We had a great meeting last night at The Unthank Arms with exceptional service & delicious food. Our speaker, from Barclays Bank was James Chung who talked about scam awareness & provided sone timely advice on how to avoid both fraud & scams! President Rita also presented new member, Tom Barker with his Norwich Rotary name badge ( although Tom is a longstanding Rotarian).
