The New Writing Festival is less than two weeks away, and the rehearsals are going rather well!

I’ve been lucky enough to sit in whilst these fabulous actors and directors explore fresh, new scripts. This particular cast is for Love On The West Sac Bridge; a laugh-out-loud comedy about love and phobias!

Featuring Barney Matley, Florence Bates, Emma Burdett and Sammee Mahmood. Directed by Lewis Garvey, and written by Matt Hanf.

THE NEW WRITING FESTIVAL, 4TH & 5TH JULY, SCHEDULE!

Get involved with our community this July. Plenty of opportunities to be creative, and all abilities are welcome! The beauty about these events is that anyone can get stuck in ❤️🎭

EMBRACING THE FUN IN THEATRE (Burnt Coffee Theatre Company) - Joe and team will run a workshop focusing on play and collaboration during the rehearsal process. An interactive space for storytelling, and exploring the concept that ‘no idea is a bad idea’.

INTERSECTIONS WORKSHOP (Harry Quirk) - Intersections is a new script written by Harriet Waterhouse and was shortlisted in our Playwriting Competition. Each participant will have the opportunity to explore the text and breathe life into new writing. A hands on experience!

Delicate dialogue of four strangers’ lives that intersect in the most subtle of ways. The play features a diverse range of characters.

DEVISING WORKSHOP (Slow Theatre Company) - Danny will facilitate a fun, practical workshop on how to get a show started, with or without a writer. A very exciting opportunity!

A NICE CUP OF TEA WORKSHOP (Tony Fullwood) - A Nice Cup Of Tea is a new script written by Gill Edwards and was shortlisted in our Playwriting Competition. Each participant will have the opportunity to explore the text and breathe life into new writing. A hands on experience!

The play is from an older woman’s perspective as she reaches the afterlife. Doreen recalls her bittersweet memories of life and family.

The New Writing Festival has been cast, and rehearsals have begun!

The Death Of A Stranger team had their read-through recently. Brilliant discussions already blooming, and excitement strongly brewing.

Catch Alison Utting, Joe Seeney, Harry Quirk and Ben Glover in this wonderfully written piece about gender identity. Written by Jay Tamames, and directed by John Davis 🎭

OSCAR WILDE’S THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY 🎨🎭

Set in the decadent world of Victorian London, a beautiful young man called Dorian Gray becomes infatuated by the exquisite portrait that Basil Hallward has painted of him. He makes a Faustian pact which gives him the capacity to explore every possible vice and desire while his moral decay is hidden away in his painted portrait that bears all the marks of his degeneration.

THE BOX OF DELIGHTS DISCOVERY SESSION TOMORROW AFTERNOON ✨

Are you interested in finding out more information about our Family Christmas Show? Or perhaps you’re not an actor, and want to be involved in other ways!

Director Clare Howard and team will be holding a fun, light-hearted session. You will find out more about the show in an interactive setting, whilst also being social over a hot drink and biscuits.

THE NEW WRITING FESTIVAL PERFORMANCES ✍️🎭

Everyone is invited. Join the Maddermarket Theatre as we embrace local talent.

The New Writing Festival is back for a second time to celebrate the fantastic talents that Norfolk and Suffolk has to offer. The Festival will take place over the first weekend in July, where we champion the winning scripts that were submitted to the Playwriting Competition earlier this year, run by the Norwich Players Theatre Company.

Below is the performance schedule for our two weekend evenings. The shows start at 7pm, and will feature two plays, and one performed extract!

It is only £7 a show ticket! Be social, network, and see some new writing. More information about other activities over the weekend will be announced soon!

📣 SHAKESPEARE IN THE GARDEN AUDITION NOTICE 📣

PERFORMANCES: The Norwich Players Theatre Company is presenting scenes from Shakespeare in Strangers’ Hall Garden on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August at 5pm and on the Maddermarket stage on Monday 31st August at 2.30pm.

WHO WE NEED: We need a cast of about a dozen actors of various ages to be our group of players. Everyone will perform roles in some of the best scenes ever written. Period costume will be worn and you will need to learn lines for the parts you play.

DIRECTORS: The event is being organized by Tony Fullwood and Chris Lloyd who will share directing duties with Stephen Goldsmith and Barney Matley.

MUSIC: Songs and music will be led by Ian Gibson. Vocal and/or instrumental ability most welcome.

PRODUCTION SCHEDULE:

Sunday 12th July 2pm-5pm: casting confirmed and work-through for all who are available.

Late July and August: Rehearsals of individual scenes leading to run-throughs in the week of 23rd August.

Thursday 28th August – 7pm-10pm: Dress Rehearsal on Maddermarket stage

Friday 29th August from c4pm: Dress Rehearsal in Strangers’ Hall Garden

Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August 5pm: performances in Strangers’ Hall Garden

Monday 31st August 2.30pm: performance on Maddermarket stage.

GROUP AUDITIONS: Friday 19th June 7pm-9pm and Sunday 21st June 10am-12pm.

AUDITIONS: If you would like to audition for this event, please email Tony Fullwood on [email protected] by Wednesday 17th June indicating any preference for audition date or time.
