We're listening to an absolute punk classic for Record Club next week at the American Library! The debut album by the American punk rock band Ramones, released in 1976.

"I think we saw this album as a wake-up call. The whole Ramones thing was a wake-up call, because in the early ’70s things had gotten so far away from everything that was happening in the mid-’60s when we’d all fallen in love with music. We were delighted to host author Richard Balls as part of Norwich History Festival in July.

In conversation with Matthew Worley, Richard discussed the story of Stiff Records and its impact on UK punk music. The maverick label that tore up the industry rulebook and championed an eclectic roster of artists including The Damned, Ian Dury, Elvis Costello, Madness, Lene Lovich, Wreckless Eric, Jona Lewie, Tenpole Tudor and The Pogues.

We thoroughly recommend his books; A Furious Devotion: The Authorised Story of Shane MacGowan; Be Stiff: The Stiff Records Story, and S*x & Drugs & Rock 'n' Roll: The Life Of Ian Dury!

Back at The Artichoke next week for our ‘Bring Your Own’ vinyl session, where you can bring along your favourite records to share with fellow music fans.

This month’s theme is ‘Secret Loves’ and is an opportunity to share what some might call your musical ‘guilty pleasures’ (but we don’t be really believe we should feel guilty about such things). Whether it is those songs that might not pass the ‘cool’ test (but that you secretly love) or perhaps there’s that one song by a band you wouldn’t normally mention in company, we want to hear them!

We’ll do our best to get through as many of everyone’s requests as possible, and if you would like to say a few words about your choices on the night that would be great. If you’d prefer to just sit back and enjoy hearing some excellent music, that’s fine too.

We're listening to R.E.M.'s classic album 'Automatic for the People' next week for our Kings Lynn Record Club session.

We’re teaming up with the American Library on two exciting events that celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the birth of American Punk Rock. Join us for Mohawks, Milestones and Music City!

Kicking off with a photography exhibit by New York to Norwich photographer Ali Smith, and a fashion show by London to Norwich designer Carmen Hyde Johnson, accompanied by our own Guy Martin on the record decks. Rounding off the evening with a reading and performance by musician Amy Rigby, author of 'Girl to Country'.

Dusty fans! Our rescheduled Record Club session will now be next week at the American Library - Memorial to the 2nd Air Division, USAAF where we'll be giving 'Dusty in Memphis' by Dusty Springfield a spin.

We'll be back in Cromer for Record Club next week, listening to 'Revolver' by The Beatles.

The Beatles' seventh album was released in early August 1966. Following the release of Rubber Soul the group had embarked on what was to be their final UK concert tour and following a lengthy break, they returned to Abbey Road to record continuously for three months. The first recordings released from these sessions, engineered by Geoff Emerick, was the single "Paperback Writer" and "Rain" and those tracks gave an indication of what was to come..

What a brilliant time we had celebrating local legend Black Anna as part of Norwich History Festival last week.

A Short History of Black Anna and the Jolly Butchers was researched, written and produced by Matthew Barnes from The Rotter's Club. Taking us on a trip back in time to her pub, the Jolly Butchers, to meet the queen of the jazz scene.

With stories gathered from newspaper film archives and first hand accounts, we recreated the Jolly Butchers experience with songs, drinks and good times at the Mad Cat Pub. It felt like a joyous way to honour one of Norwich’s most interesting (and much overlooked!) citizens.
