Our May social was a talk about Cross Keys Bridge (the Sutton Bridge) from our own Membership Secretary Neil Spinks. Neil traced the history of the bridge, which is the only river crossing between Norfolk and Lincolnshire and handles over 15,500 vehicles per day.

We hold a social event with guest speakers every month throughout the year (except August). Members and their guests are very welcome and more details can be found here

💥Our March Social with Wally Webb💥

Wally began his talk by taking us along the river through Norwich, describing each bridge and giving us a little bit of the history of each one. We were then guided through the Broads as far as Gt Yarmouth, and back towards Wroxham, more bridges and specifically the difficulties with Potterham bridge’s (lack of) clearance!

He then went on to tell us of the various boats that he has owned, beginning with the very small one, in which he could get almost anywhere along the rivers. However as he wanted to see more of the countryside, he bought a bigger boat but he then found he could not get under any of the bridges! He has now reverted to something a lot smaller that can easily get about the Broads.

Yet another captivating talk by Wally and we give our thanks to him for his support for the group.

A big thank you to Neil Spinks for a fascinating and insightful presentation on the world of HGV (LGV) vehicles, drivers and driving at our March Social last week.

With over 10 years’ experience as an HGV licence holder, Transport Manager and Driver CPC trainer, Neil shared his expert knowledge on vehicle weights and regulations, fuel efficiency and new technologies, as well as the many challenges facing drivers today. From strict legal responsibilities and safety checks to driver shortages and demanding working conditions, it was an interesting look at the professionalism required in the haulage industry — and a reminder of the responsibility we all share when driving alongside large goods vehicles. 🚛
