Steve Wilson is alive today because of the kindness of strangers. When he went into cardiac arrest at the swimming pool, the staff at The Hive - Leisure Centre in Ely knew exactly what to do. They started CPR and used a defibrillator, and in those early moments they began Steve’s chain of survival: the vital steps that keep someone alive until expert help arrives.

They kept going until the emergency services and our Anglia Two (Cambridge) crew arrived. Our crew gave Steve advanced care at the scene before accompanying him by land ambulance to hospital for further treatment. His chain of survival didn't end there, as our Aftercare team provided support to Steve, and the people who helped save his life, in the weeks that followed.

Fun fact: Our helicopters are bright yellow because our very first sponsor was The AA! Over the years, we’ve changed aircraft to meet the needs of our patients and communities, but that distinctive colour has remained.

Eight people. One biplane. One unforgettable day. 🛩️💛

On Saturday 27 June, eight incredible supporters of East Anglian Air Ambulance took to the skies above Duxford Imperial War Museum for a fundraising wing walk, strapped to the top of a plane, 1,000 feet in the air.

Among them was Carol, 71, who asked to go first. "If life offers you something, take it up," she says. There was Sarni, who took on the challenge in honour of a close friend whose husband was attended by our crew. And Lauren, one of our own team, who said it was "a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Together they raised an incredible £11,460 for East Anglian Air Ambulance. 💛

"I really was on cloud nine afterwards," says Carol. "It gives me a huge amount of pride."

It recently went away for repairs, and has just been returned by its maker, the incredibly talented Vic O'Brien. Not only has Vic restored it to its former glory, he has also added a critical care car complete with kit bags!
