At Conference, we hold the following competitions, which are the national finals of a series of regional, area and club competitions which have taken place across the country:

Evaluation: this is what others may describe as giving feedback. Competitors must listen to a speech and then deliver a well-structured, constructive and insightful appraisal.

Topics: AKA impromptu speaking, when speakers are given the topic about which to speak and then immediately have to deliver a short but well-structured speech around that subject.

Team speaking: a competition that has proved to be a lot of fun recently, is the team speaking contest. Open to anyone (for other competitions, you have to first qualify at club, area and regional level), the team of four have to devise a series of short speeches based around three words.

If this has aroused your curiosity, or if you are interested in developing your public speaking skills, why not get in touch? We have clubs across the country.

Wow! we were treated to a pro coached Use of Voice session courtesy of Iestyn Edwards.

It was a time to absorb all we can. Practical training, advice, stories and dispelling quite a few myths too. Iestyn, thank you.

Huge well done and thanks to those who made the evening special – Evie May with your incredible speech, leading us off and setting the bar high. To Joel, Danny, Roger and Clare – our visitors, inspiring us whilst already sharing your skill and experiences. 🙇‍♀️A bow to you all.

Photo: The evening was so crammed with learning and listening that we didn't stop for a photo. So here is Iestyn speaking at a recent launch event for his Memoir 'My Tutu Went AWOL!'

Please understand that absolute beginners are welcome always. We appreciate what is shared by our visitors and members alike, either in their development or when by sharing their expertise.
