Industrial-scale farming is changing the face of our countryside – but what does this mean for the communities, landscapes, roads and environment around it?

A planning appeal concerning Cherry Tree Farm owned by Cranswick plc in Stow Bedon, with capacity for almost 7,000 pigs, is due to be heard at a public inquiry in September. The local community is continuing to fight the proposals, and they need your support.

Our latest news article explains what is happening and, importantly, what you can do to help.

Tonight and this week, nature is putting on one of its most spectacular shows with the Perseid meteor shower. The peak falling should occur tomorrow 12th August & gives us a perfect excuse to step outside, turn off the lights and look up.

But how long will we still be able to see skies like this?

Norfolk is fortunate to have some of England's darkest rural skies. Yet increasing development, unnecessary security lighting and light pollution are changing our experience of the countryside after dark. CPRE Norfolk is campaigning to protect these precious dark landscapes – for wildlife, for people and for future generations.

Tonight, take five minutes.

🌟 Find somewhere dark.
🌟 Look up.
🌟 Notice what you can see.

First it was flooding. Now it's drought.

What's happening to Norfolk's countryside?

Just months after Norfolk was dealing with flooded fields and overflowing rivers, we're now facing official drought conditions, tinder-dry landscapes and an increasing risk of wildfires.

Is this just an unusual year... or should we be preparing for these extremes to become our new reality?

Our latest article explores what these changing conditions could mean for Norfolk's countryside - https://www.cprenorfolk.org.uk/stories/from-flood-to-fire-is-this-norfolks-new-climate-reality/

133 football pitches.

Take a moment & try & imagine how big that is in your mind. Huge isn't it?

236 acres is the size of this proposed mega solar 'farm'.

And it's just one.

☀️ **Can Norfolk achieve net zero without covering its best farmland in solar panels?**

At CPRE Norfolk, we believe the answer is **yes**.

Renewable energy is essential—but where we generate it matters just as much as how we generate it.

From rooftops and warehouses to car parks and previously developed land, there are smarter places to harness solar power while protecting the productive farmland that feeds us and the countryside that makes Norfolk so special.

Curious to know why we're campaigning to get **Solar OFF the Land**?

🌳 **Planning a walk in Norfolk this weekend?**

August is one of the best times to enjoy our beautiful countryside. From quiet woodland paths and rolling farmland to breath taking coastal views, Norfolk offers some of the finest landscapes in the country.

As more of us head outdoors, we all have a part to play in looking after these special places.

Take your litter home. Keep dogs under control around livestock and wildlife. Stay on marked paths. Leave nature just as you found it.

Small actions make a big difference.

🌾 **What does Norfolk's countryside really give us?**

At this time of year, our fields should be full of promise. Harvest is beginning, farmers are working around the clock and our countryside is playing its vital role in producing food for the nation.

But this summer has also highlighted just how fragile that landscape has become. Drought, extreme heat and changing weather patterns are putting increasing pressure on our countryside.

That's why protecting our county has never mattered more.

Find out how CPRE Norfolk is campaigning to safeguard our landscapes, support sustainable land use and ensure our best farmland remains available for future generations.
