Shell collector, eh? 😏🐚

Enter your new obsession, ✨feathers✨

This time of year is great for feather-hunting as many birds are shedding their worn-out summer plumage and growing fresh new feathers for winter 🪶

Ringed plovers reading your posts about summer ending: 🤨

The holidays may be winding down, but our beach-nesting birds are still hard at work 💪

After a long season of nesting, feeding and protecting chicks, they're nearly there but young birds are still vulnerable until they can fly 🤏🐤

Let's help them over the finish line - stay clear of cordons, keep an eye out for chicks on the shoreline and keep pups under control 🐕‍🦺

Halt for the mighty cotton ball 🤚

This baby moorhen is here to steal your heart ❤️

If you mix up coots and moorhens, you're not alone! Just remember: moorhens have red beaks, while coots have white (or pale pink) beaks.

Thanks to Ashleigh Mae for this downright adorable photo of the week 🥹

Spot one of these in your garden and you'll know about it - females are 7cm long! 😦📏

It's a great green bush-cricket, seen here rubbing its wings together to serenade nearby lady crickets 🎶

Look out for the orangey-brown stripe along its back. I wouldn't recommend picking one up though, it's known to give a nasty nip! 🤕

This was a lucky escape. Next time, it might not be 🚨

Earlier this week, a fire started next to Syderstone Common.

The terrifying part? Conditions on Syderstone are almost identical to the area that burned. Had the fire spread, the consequences could have been catastrophic 🔥

These dry, hot conditions need to be taken so seriously. Please be responsible, don't take risks and call 999 as soon as you see a fire (sharing your location with What3Words) 📞

Our staff got some jammy seats for the eclipse yesterday (not jealous at all 😩)

Where were you, anywhere nice? Our Marketing Officer managed to watch it with a spoon!

Rare bird alert 🚨

Ever seen a black stork before? One of our Hickling visitor centre volunteers hadn't until last Friday 😅

It usually breeds in eastern Europe and migrates to Africa (so a little off course!) ✈️
