As a funder, what do we like to see when looking at grant bids? We like to see when communities clearly evidence need, demonstrate their impact, and make a compelling case for change.

Data can be the key to understanding local need, unlocking funding, and supporting people. That’s why Norse Group recently delivered a Data Analysis workshop for local charitable organisations, offering hands-on support from employees who generously donated their time and expertise.

Through one-to-one sessions, organisations learned how to extract and process data more effectively to strengthen impact reporting, improve funding applications, identify supporters, and make more informed decisions.

We’re proud to help build these skills across the sector through our Good for Good programme, which helps local businesses achieve social impact.

Our latest Healthy Young Minds grants awarded £80,000, supporting more than 1,400 young people, at an average cost of £53 per young person. These grants back trusted local organisations to provide therapeutic, community-based support that keeps young people connected and supported close to home.

If you’re working with young people facing challenges right now, you will know this is true… Through our Healthy Young Minds Coalition, youth workers tell us they are facing rising demand and increasingly complex situations. What helps young people most is not always something new or flashy, but regular sessions, trusted adults and safe spaces that are there week in, week out.

That learning shaped our recent funding and is explored in our latest blog. We talk about what groups across Norfolk told us they need most: core support, flexibility and time to build relationships. These foundations help young people feel safe, open up about how they are feeling and get support before problems escalate.

By listening carefully and acting on what communities tell us, we are backing projects that consistently support young people’s mental wellbeing.

🔮 This is how staff will be using their volunteer hours in 2027…

Not painting fences or one‑off away days, but sharing the skills they use every day. Finance teams helping charities navigate complex systems. HR professionals strengthening governance. Legal, marketing and fundraising experts stepping in at the moments that matter most.

This is already happening through our Skills Exchange. Businesses across Norfolk are choosing professional skills volunteering because it creates real, measurable impact - often 7x more valuable than traditional volunteering. A few focused hours can remove barriers, save charities thousands of pounds and help local organisations change the lives of local people.

For businesses committed to meaningful social responsibility, this is what the future looks like. Targeted. Community‑led. Rooted in local need. And designed so everyone involved can see the difference their time makes.

Is clinical support the only effective way to support young people’s mental health? Recently, we backed The Garage Norwich to continue its Intervention youth programme. Free weekly sessions in dance, drama or music were delivered alongside personalised, 1-to-1 support, helping young people build confidence and grow their resilience.

One young person, who initially struggled with panic attacks and social anxiety, was supported through regular one‑to‑one work alongside group drama sessions. Over time, they built confidence, formed friendships and have moved into a larger theatre group - a step that once felt impossible.

One parent said: “I’m amazed at how she’s grown in confidence; she took part in performances she never would have before.”

By backing trusted local organisations like The Garage, our donors are supporting young people to build confidence and resilience. While they are sometimes seen as ‘extras’, creative spaces are essential spaces for young people to develop, grow and build resilience.

Only communities can provide this kind of insight 🔎 We can look at big numbers, but they only ever tell us part of the story. The Norfolk Flourish survey, completed by 9,347 children and young people across the county, gives us an important snapshot of how young people are feeling. It showed that mental wellbeing has declined since 2017. Among those reporting low mental wellbeing, almost 6 in 10 say they never like to talk about their feelings.

This data is important, but Norfolk Community Foundation can go deeper. We collaborate directly with communities through the 60+ members of our Healthy Young Minds Coalition. They revealed 5 big challenges they’re seeing right now in Norfolk…

1️⃣Referrals and demand are increasing, with cases being more complex.

2️⃣Young people are increasingly anxious.

3️⃣The number of young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and neurodiversity is increasing.

4️⃣Young people are spending more and more time online.

5️⃣Young people’s postcode affects the services they can access and how long they wait for help.

Together, this insight shapes how we respond. We focused our recent funding on therapeutic, community‑based support that provides young people with a local offer that meets their needs.
