Big C Cancer Charity Big C is here for anyone affected by cancer, from diagnosis and treatment, to life beyond cancer.

In 1980, two young men from Norfolk found themselves with cancer and having to travel to London or Cambridge for treatment, often finding this journey harder than the treatment itself. They vowed the people of Norfolk & Waveney would have access to the best treatment and support in their local areas.

40 years on, this is being realised daily, with nearly £30million raised by the local community s

ince ‘The Big C Appeal’ was launched. Today our funding of surgical and diagnostic equipment at Norfolk's hospitals means increasing numbers of people can be treated locally and new equipment in hospitals has meant faster or less invasive treatment for a range of cancers. Our funded research across the Norwich Research Park has found some incredible discoveries into cancer and vital support for those affected by cancer is reaching out to those who need it, closer to them, in the local community. Today Big C has four drop in support and information centres across Norfolk and Waveney that are used by thousands of people every year affected by cancer. The centres in Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, King’s Lynn and Norwich provide valuable information about diagnosis, treatments, side effects and recovery. Trained nurses and practitioners are also there to provide emotional help, support and complementary therapies.

Our Big C Furniture & Craft Emporium is no ordinary charity shop. It’s a bustling superstore filled with treasures, and we have a wonderful opportunity for a Furniture & Craft Emporium Manager to lead this shop with passion and creativity!

The shop houses incredible crafting items from wool, fabrics and card to haberdashery, as well as beautiful furniture including tables and chairs, desks, sofas and coffee tables. We also sell clothes, books, children's items, bric-a-brac, homeware and we even have a seasonal room.

As Furniture & Craft Emporium Manager, you will have the opportunity to oversee this fantastic shop, move furniture, manage staff and all our wonderful volunteers, and welcome lots of lovely customers while supporting your local cancer charity and helping raise awareness and vital funds.

We were delighted to take part in a recent Career Discover Day at Norwich Research Park, helping students explore the wide range of careers and opportunities available.

The event gave students the chance to visit organisations for hands-on workshops, take part in a 'design sprint' designed to develop creative problem-solving skills and meet professionals from a variety of businesses during a speed networking session.

Students who visited Big C as part of the day spent time with our nutritionist, Andrea, gaining an insight into careers in nutrition and the role they play in supporting health and wellbeing.

The day had a positive impact on students' awareness of career opportunities at Norwich Research Park - the proportion of students interested in working on the campus in the future increased from 12% before the event to 45% afterwards. Understanding of the skills, qualifications and pathways needed to secure a role on campus also rose significantly, from 27% to 78%.

We really enjoyed supporting this fantastic initiative helping to inspire the next generation and showcase the exciting careers available at the Norwich Research Park!

Sarah was 47 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She said that coming into a Big C centre felt like a calm and welcoming place to sit and wait for her chemotherapy appointments as opposed to the crowded waiting room of the hospital.

Reflecting on her experience of Big C and her time during treatment, Sarah shared:
"Strangely, I feel like I've seen a different side of my life that I wouldn't have seen had I not had cancer. That sounds perverse, but I find myself looking at a nice sky, or some flowers, or a tree and just taking them in a way that I never would have done before cancer."

Today is , a chance to take a moment out of a busy day, week, month to focus on techniques and tips that help you relax your shoulders and unclench your jaw.

For some, these techniques could be having a bubble bath, getting lost in a book, baking some delicious treats or simply taking some slow, deep breaths and releasing tension in your body.

At Big C, we offer relaxation sessions that focus on sound, gentle movement and activities such as crafting and walks to help you when your cancer diagnosis or treatment can feel overwhelming.

This Financial Awareness Day, we're highlighting the free energy efficiency support and information available at Big C through our partnership with Cadent and their Centre for Warmth initiative.

Our free year-round energy support provides advice and practical help for people affected by cancer across Norfolk, including energy-saving advice and carbon monoxide awareness.

As Celia shared, the workshop she attended provided valuable advice on being more energy efficient and helped reduce the stress of managing forms.

We have some fantastic items on this month's eBay round up!

First up, we have a Panasonic Lumix camera that was donated in fantastic condition. This wonderful pre-loved item found it's new home. and we are so pleased.

Secondly, a Pfaff sewing machine was given a new lease of life. We hope it continues to make lovely new clothes and give pre loved clothes a new sparkle.

And finally, this gorgeous 9ct gold, diamond and emerald ring. How beautiful! We wonder if this has gone to a lucky couple or to add to a stunning jewellery collection.
