Another mature tree with special local interest removed on the catch all 'safety grounds' excuse. It's time the Arboricultural Association starts to call out this destruction of out heriatage and biodiverity by tree work contrators. The industy is becoming a joke to the general public who now see tree work companies as nothing more than tree destroyers for financial gain. Theyre not far off the mark imo. It's not 'white van' dodgy contractors either, many many AA approved contractors are are nothing more than risk entrepreneurs now, the conflict is they pay the AA huge amounts of money for the badge. A case of don't bite the hand that feeds you ?

Some residents did not want the tree, which they believed was healthy, to be felled.

Bonkers reasoning and not even close to a proper risk assessment.

... 'Persimmon Homes had applied to fell the 72ft (22m) ash on a field off Bolton Road in Silsden – where the developer plans to build over 130 homes.'

'The company argued that while the tree was relatively healthy, it could get ash dieback in the future, which would put residents of the new estate at risk.'

Developers Persimmon Homes want to fell the tree, arguing it could get ash dieback in the future.

Veteran parkland oak surveyed last summer and recommended for a heavy reduction of the regrowth from the previous reduction points. A TPO with extensive decay from the ground to the previous large reduction cuts. Natural fracture pruning, leaving 200-300mm tear stub from growth point. Large limb failed late summer before we go to reduce it. Limb to be left at base of tree as brown rot habitat. The idea of fracture tears is to encourage lots of epicormic growth and allow the new growth point to establish properly, BS 3998 natural target pruning doesn’t allow for this and should be avoided on mature, ancient and veteran trees of many species, esp Fagacae. O eve the new crown has established the epicormics will have done their job keeping some functionality and will be shaded out with a deadwood stub slowly turning to white rot over time. Tree works on mature and veteran trees should never be for an instant result. This three look good in its setting and will re-organise its crown. It will need further reductions over the decades to come to reduce the chances of complete collapse.
