When a young boy arrived at his new foster home in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, he was underweight, in poor health and unfamiliar with life in a family.

Just days later, he became seriously ill and was admitted to hospital. His foster mother stayed by his side throughout his week in hospital, patiently helping him adjust and responding to his individual needs.

Today, this little boy is growing and making progress in the loving care of his foster family.

His story is just one example of the continued strengthening of family-based care systems in Cambodia. Care for Children has been working alongside the Cambodian government to develop the policies, standards and support needed to help children move from institutional care into families.

We’re delighted that our Founder and Executive Director, Robert Glover, will be opening the No Family Alone Conference hosted by Safe Families for Children National USA in Wisconsin next Monday.

It’s a privilege to stand alongside Safe Families for Children in championing the power of family love.

Following Robert’s address, attendees will have the opportunity to watch our documentary, Children of Shanghai, followed by a Q&A exploring the importance of family-based care for children around the world.

Together, we share a vision of a world where every child can grow up in a family.

This week, some of our team were in Atlanta attending the Christian Alliance for Orphans 2026 Summit ✈️

It was a privilege to connect with leaders, organisations, advocates and families from more than 40 nations, all united by a shared passion for global orphan care.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and took the time to connect with us throughout the conference. It was wonderful to meet so many people who share our vision of a world of children in families!

Making institutional care a last resort in Thailand ✅️

At the end of August, Care for Children joined government leaders, child welfare professionals and organisations from across Thailand at a public forum focused on the impact of institutional care for children.

The forum highlighted growing momentum in Thailand to reduce unnecessary placements in residential care and strengthen family, kinship and community-based care.

The Thai government took an important step forward by officially declaring that institutional care should be a last resort for orphans and vulnerable children 🙌

Care for Children has been supporting this shift for 14 years, and a pilot project we have supported was highlighted at the event as an example of how children's homes can help strengthen families and support children to grow up in family environments.

Care for Children’s vision fits in a single line: a world of children in families.

To pursue it, they work with governments around the world to transform child welfare systems, helping countries move from institutional care to family-based care so more children can find the safe, loving families they deserve.

The goal is lasting change that puts family at the heart of child welfare.

What does family mean to you?

At the More Together Festival, we invited visitors to help us grow our family tree.

We asked one simple question: what does family mean to you?

Visitors were asked to write their answer on a leaf and add it to our giant family tree 🌳

The result was a wonderful collection of words and thoughts: love, acceptance, safety, belonging — and one especially memorable answer from a family involved in fostering: “having every bed in my home full!” 💚

Care for Children at More Together Festival 💚

It was wonderful to be a part of RM More Together Festival and to meet so many people who stopped by to find out more about Care for Children and why we believe that every child belongs in a family.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to see us, shared their thoughts and got involved! We loved seeing so many people take part in our Family Tree activity, sharing what family means to them.

We also hosted a fantastic screening of Children of Shanghai on Sunday. Thank you to everyone who joined us, it was brilliant to see such a great turnout and have so many thoughtful conversations afterwards.
