In the last six months, ten children have been placed into families by the government in Cambodia!

That's ten lives changed by being given the opportunity to experience the love and belonging of growing up in a family 🤍

Our team is working in partnership with the Cambodian government across three locations in Cambodia to train staff in assessing families and placing children into loving homes. In the next six months we hope to see an increase in placements at all three sites and expand into a new province!

It's wonderful to hear the feedback from foster parents who have opened their homes to children. Their experiences are a powerful reminder of the importance of family.

We've seen what's possible when governments commit to change.

In China, the child welfare reforms we helped support have contributed to one million children growing up in families instead of institutions.

Now we're building on that experience.

Our vision is to see a world of children in families.

We're working with governments across the globe to bring proven, government-led child welfare reform to more countries. We've already received invitations and enquiries from more than 20 countries and are exploring regional hubs across Southern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.

Every child deserves to grow up in a loving family.

Yet an estimated 5.4 million children are still living in institutions around the world.

Decades of research have shown that institutional care can have lasting effects on children's emotional, social, physical and psychological development. Children need stable, loving relationships to thrive.

That's why Care for Children partners with governments to help transform child welfare systems from the inside out. Together, we're supporting the transition from institutional care to family-based care, so more children can grow up in families where they belong.

This is more than helping individual children. It's about creating lasting, nationwide change that strengthens families, communities and child welfare systems for generations to come.

After 14 years of partnership in Thailand, Care for Children’s work in the country is drawing to a close, leaving behind a stronger family care system and new opportunities for children to grow up in loving families.

Working alongside the Thai government, social workers and communities, we've helped expand family care across the country, ensuring more children can experience the safety, stability and belonging that every child deserves.

Today, all 30 government child welfare homes and all 77 Shelters for Children and Families across Thailand have received family care training through Care for Children. Beyond the statistics, there are countless stories of children who have found love and belonging in a family thanks to this project.

While our direct involvement has ended, the systems, skills and partnerships developed through this work continue to support Thailand's ongoing commitment to strengthening family-based care for children.

Following on from our Southern Africa Family Placement Conference last month, we were thrilled to facilitate a screening of Children of Shanghai in Zambia last week.

Children of Shanghai tells the extraordinary story of China's first generation of foster children and recounts the incredible journey of Robert Glover and his family, who moved to China to support the Chinese government's transition to family-based care.

Updates from our team in Cambodia!

Since signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Cambodian Government in 2021, Care for Children has been working in partnership with government agencies to support the development of a stronger family care system.

This week marks an important milestone, with the launch of new National Minimum Standards - an initiative that Care for Children has helped to shape. We recognise the strong leadership and commitment of the Cambodian Government in driving forward this important reform for children and families. These standards will support the reduction of the Residential Care Institution (RCI) population while improving the quality of care provided both in RCIs and within family-based care settings.

We’re also delighted to share that we have been invited to begin working with 3 additional government RCIs, with plans to expand our support even further by the end of the year.

We’re delighted to announce the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Government of Viet Nam, marking an exciting new chapter in our partnership to support children through family-based care.

This important milestone includes formal recognition of long-term foster care as part of permanent care planning for children and will see the launch of a new project in Hue, helping more children grow up in safe, stable and loving families.

We are so excited to continue our work in Viet Nam, continuing our mission to see a world of children in families 🌏️
