OUT AND ABOUT: Pam C at Ely
Pam says:
Ely Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral which can trace its origin to the abbey founded in Ely in 672 by Etheldreda. The queen buried in Ely cathedral is St Etheldreda a Anglo-Saxon princess, Fenland queen and Abbess of Ely. She founded the monastery on the site in 672.

The Knife Angel stands 26 feet tall and is constructed by using 100,000 knives taken from the 250,000 that were removed from the streets by police during the amnesty of Stop Knife Crime.
The making of the Angel was done by a sculptor called Alfie Bradley, steel sheeting was the most suitable material to enable the sculpture to weld each individual knife, blade facing outwards onto the sculpture, he also removed each blade's handle and placed on the wings to give a feather like appearance.
Some of the blades used to create the wings are inscribed with the names of lost loved ones of the 80 or so families who support the project. The construction took just over 2 years to create with support from the police.
It travels the country promoting knife violence must be stopped. We were lucky to see it at Ely on a lovely sunny day which made it look golden at times.

Stamp Out Rogue Traders Campaign

Stamp Out Rogue Traders Campaign

We have a long partnership with Norfolk Trading Standards, but did you know about the Norfolk Trusted Trader scheme, which they help to deliver? The scheme is Council-backed, and all members are vetted and monitored by Trading Standards (we have used a couple of traders through the scheme at Federation Office).
From 1 June, there will be a month-long "Stamp Out Rogue Traders" campaign in conjunction with Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils, and they are asking for our help to share this important doorstep crime message. We have a small supply of hard copies of their SORT poster, if you would like to collect one from the Office, as well as a small supply of the “No Cold Calling" stickers.

Norfolk Federation of WIs is a founding member of The Norfolk Against Scams Partnership, committed to taking a stand against scams and aims to make Norfolk a scam free county. Have you visited NASP online recently?

OUR DOUBLE LIFE: Anne N and her classic WI Barnham Broom and District WI out for the morning at Wroxham Miniature Worlds.
Anne says: The Margaret Seaman Collection of knitted models was amazing. From Buckingham Palace and Sandringham Estate, to the Knittingale Hospital and Great Yarmouth. The amount of work involved to create them is staggering. There were even knitted beach huts available to buy!
