Keeping Abreast UK Supporting women considering or going through breast reconstruction surgery, after a diagnosis of br

Keeping Abreast was established in September 2007 by patients Anna Beckingham and Beverley Birritteri and Breast Reconstruction Nurse Specialist Ruth Harcourt. They recognised that there was a great need for women, both newly diagnosed with breast cancer facing the possibility of mastectomy, and also women further down the line who are considering reconstructive surgery, to be able to meet and talk to other women who have been through similar experiences. Keeping Abreast offer;
- A national support network
- The opportunity to meet women facing similar issues
- Information, support and practical help
- The chance to see results of reconstructive surgery
- Support for women with the BRCA gene from 'Nick of Time'

Our 10th More Than Just Fashion Show was everything we hoped for and more! We’re still buzzing from the magic, laughter, emotion and togetherness that filled Epic Studios . 🥹✨ We still have so many people to thank, so if we haven’t mentioned you just yet, we haven’t forgotten you! More thank-you's coming over the next few weeks. 🥰

Today, we’re celebrating the importance of awareness, choice and support for anyone facing breast cancer related reconstruction.

At Keeping Abreast, we believe everyone deserves access to honest information, real-life experiences and compassionate peer support to help them make the choices that are right for them. Every reconstruction journey is different, and there is no right or wrong decision - what matters is that people feel informed and supported.

Our Keeping Abreast Fashion Show brings this to life in the most powerful way. By sharing their stories and stepping onto the catwalk, our incredible models show the world that there is no single way to look or feel after breast cancer. They celebrate individuality, confidence, resilience and the strength found in sharing experiences with others who understand. 💕 A little reminder of what makes our More Than Just Fashion Show so special…
As we count down to next week’s 10th show, it’s lovely to see the support, encouragement and laughter our incredible models are sharing with one another behind the scenes! 🥹❤️

These women have been through so much. They’ve faced breast cancer, navigated their own journeys, collected a few battle scars, and now they’re getting ready to step into the spotlight together. And along the way, they’re reminding each other just how amazing they are. ✨
From reassuring those feeling nervous to sharing a few words of wisdom (and a very important reminder not to fall over in your heels! 👠😂), it’s this sense of sisterhood that makes our show so much more than fashion.

Because it’s not about being a professional model, getting every step perfect or having nerves of steel. It’s about showing up, supporting each other, having fun and celebrating just how far you’ve come!

We are all so incredibly proud of our models, and every single one of us has your backs. ❤️

In September, we were invited to the Breast Cancer Now - Breast Reconstruction Nurses Conference at their Head Office in London.

We shared information about the support services Keeping Abreast provides to anyone facing breast reconstruction. Our CEO, Victoria Pigg, and Elsa Ryder, Trustee and Keeping Abreast one-to-one volunteer, spoke about how we work alongside healthcare professionals to complement clinical care, helping patients feel more informed, prepared and supported throughout their reconstruction journey.

If you're feeling anxious about your breast cancer reconstruction surgery, don't keep your thoughts to yourself! Our friendly registered Keeping Abreast Volunteers are there to talk to you about their own experiences and to support you through your treatment. Get in touch if you would like to have a chat with a volunteer over the phone and to find out if there is an in-person support group near you. As they say, a problem shared is a problem halved, so we look forward to hearing from you!
