【Discover Japan 2023 × Save the Children UK】

Hello,

Thank you for supporting our charity event for Save the Children UK: Turkey Syria Earthquake in Discover Japan 2023.

We are pleased to announce that we have raised £561 in total, which reached our fundraising target.

In the event, there are some exhibits that represent Japanese cultures! We have “Aruaru” (common things in Japan), Japan travel map, and poster works by UEA students. Student staffs are preparing hard for it, so please come and see our works. We hope you enjoy our exhibition😊

👘 Discover Japan 2023 performance ③👘

【 Japanese Folk Dance 】

Comment from the performer:

I will dance the Oyama-bayashi from Akita Prefecture, which has been registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Site in 2016! At festivals of shrines in Kakunodate area features dashi (dressed-up floats). The participants dance to the rhythm of hayashi with a musical accompaniment of odaiko (large drum), kodaiko (small drum), tsudumi (hand drum), surigane (domed percussion instrument), and fue (flute).

🇯🇵Discover Japan 2023 performance ②🇯🇵

【 Kendama and Koma 】

Comment from the performer:

I will do Koma (Spinning top) and Kendama performance. I have been playing Koma for the last 13 years since I was 8. Koma is the traditional Japanese toy we often play on New Year’s Day. Through my performance, I would like all of you to feel Japanese culture.
In the show, I plan to do around 10 techniques and interact with audiences as much as possible! I am really looking forward to performing and please enjoy the entire event!!
