A place to live isn’t always the same as feeling at home.

After years of unstable housing, “Tim” finally had a place of his own — but it felt cold, empty, and unsafe. The impact on his mental health was real.

With the right support, that began to change.
Carpets for warmth. Furniture for comfort. Essentials to make daily life easier.

Now, Tim describes his space differently:
“it feels like a home… like I have something to live for.”

This , we’re reminded that home is more than four walls — it’s safety, stability, and hope.

Take on a challenge to support our homelessness work in the East of England.

There are more than 26,000 people in our region who are homeless right now and of these at least 11,000 are children.

Your support can make a difference, so combine a personal challenge with fundraising and enable us to do more.

We have access to events across the UK including running events from 5km up to marathons, inflatable obstacle courses and bungee jumps. Here are just a few examples:

* Exeter Inflatable course - fun obstacle course with options from 2.5km to 15km, Sat 15 Aug

* Cheltenham 10k and half marathon - Sun 20 Sept

* Ipswich Half Marathon - Sun 27 Sept

Going the extra mile🚶‍♂️‍➡️

A big thank you to the team from Flagship Homes and Bromford who took part in Friday's coast walk.

The group walked 22 miles from the Flagship Homes' St Andrew's Meadow development in Bacton to Cromer pier and then back again.

They were treated to stunning weather and then a very welcome chip shop meal at the finish as their reward.

Collectively nearly £4,000 has been raised to support all we do at Hopestead on our mission to end homelessness. A big thank you goes to our event sponsor Aspen Build.

Huge thanks to Ewan, Jenna and Dan who completed the London Landmarks half marathon recently, raising £1,800 between them.

This money will help us continue our work in the East of England to prevent homelessness and support some of those experiencing it.

Our team has been out and about in recent weeks, visiting some of our partner charities. Homelessness is complex, and we know we can’t tackle it alone so through our Hope Funds project we support charities and social enterprises with funding, connections, and training. Quite simply, we’re stronger together.

Yesterday, we went to Thetford to meet up with The Horticulture Industry Scheme CIC (THIS) and see their team in action. We saw a fantastic transformation at one home where an overgrown garden was transformed in a few hours by two of the THIS team. The resident, who had recently moved in, has mobility issues, and the work means she will now be able to enjoy her garden fully. She’s especially looking forward to cooking up a storm on her barbecue in her beautiful new garden.

We then travelled to see a commercial client. These are vital to THIS, as they bring in revenue to support their community work. Our own Kelsey spoke with Jack from THIS, who was working there when we arrived (see photo). Kelsey explained “Jack had a real sense of pride in the jobs he’s done and showed me before and after photos of some of the work he has completed. He hopes to start an NVQ soon and is looking forward to developing his skills even further. Jack loves being part of a team, having purpose and making a difference.”

When Penelope escaped years of abuse, she found safety—but also an empty, unfamiliar space and the daunting task of starting again.
With support, her house slowly transformed into a home filled with warmth, essentials, and hope.
Today, Penelope feels safer, stronger, and ready to look toward her future.
