Fresh Start Future Enterprises Supporting individuals who currently or have previously been involved in the criminal justice system

02/12/2022

Around 1 in 3 prison leavers are released on a Friday when many support services are shut for the weekend. For some, this leads to nights on the street or further offending to stay afloat.

We're taking action to help solve this problem with a Bill which passed its second reading in Parliament today.

Once the Bill has passed, prison leavers who are scheduled for release on Friday, who have mental health issues, substance misuse problems, mobility difficulties, or long travels home, will instead be released on the Wednesday or Thursday after strict security checks.

Tackling Friday releases is expected to result in significantly fewer crimes each year, meaning fewer victims and safer streets.
