Our last meeting before our summer break is this Thursday (30th). We are finishing with Rossini’s comedy Il Turko in Italia (The Turk in Italy). We start up again on 3rd September.

No meeting in Norwich tonight. We are off to Cley-next-the-sea to see two performances from the North Norfolk Chamber opera.

From a newspaper report in the 1970s. It still holds true today as the club enters its 54th year.

“You will naturally wish to know what sort of people constitute the membership of Norwich Opera Club.
This answer is - no sort! They are all individuals,
and as such refuse to be categorised. (And a good thing too!)
Friendly? Certainly! Lively? Indubitably! Intelligent? Well, they might modestly deny that -but the very fact that they became members demonstrates their uncommon sense!
Norwich Opera Club, you see, is something more than just a group of people gathered together to pursue the same interest. For not only do its members love opera and want more of it - they also love life, and want more of that as well.
Come along and meet them, and you'll see what we mean!”
