πŸ¦” Hedgehog Highways Really Do Make a Difference! 🌿

When the Hampdens was first built, hedgehog highways weren't a planning requirement, meaning many of our gardens became isolated by fences.

This video shows just how important those small 13cm Γ— 13cm holes really are. On one August evening alone, our wildlife camera captured several hedgehogs using the highway to move safely between gardens in search of food, water and mates.

The amazing thing is... we have FOUR hedgehog highways in our garden, and this footage is from just ONE of them over the course of a single night! It really highlights just how many hedgehogs are living on our estateβ€”and how much they rely on connected gardens to survive.

πŸ‘€ Keep your eyes peeled throughout the video... there's also a spider making an appearance and a surprise hunter at the very end! πŸ•·οΈπŸΎ

Creating a hedgehog highway takes just a few minutes, but it could open up a whole network of safe spaces for our local wildlife.

πŸ¦” Become a Hedgehog Champion today!
βœ”οΈ Cut a 13cm Γ— 13cm hole in your fence (with your neighbour's permission).
βœ”οΈ Keep it clear and accessible.
βœ”οΈ Help connect the Hampdens, one garden at a time.

Together, we can create a hedgehog-friendly neighbourhood where wildlife can thrive. πŸ’š

πŸ¦”πŸ“– Newsletter Week 6!

This week we're sharing Page 6 of the Hampdens Hedgehogs Annual Newsletter, and we're still looking back at what was a very busy June!

Our founder, Kitty, spent time reaching out to local and national businesses, asking if they would support our community litter picks and wildlife projects. We're incredibly grateful to McDonald's and Starbucks, who have continued to support our litter-picking efforts over the past year. Their generosity has helped us provide equipment, refreshments, and encouragement for our fantastic volunteers. πŸ’š

June also saw Kitty featured in the Norfolk Wildlife Trust's Tern magazine, where she shared her top tips on becoming a Hedgehog Champion and helping wildlife thrive in our gardens and communities.

It's amazing to see how one conversation, one article, or one act of kindness can inspire others to take action for nature.

Take a look at this week's newsletter page and see how together we're helping make Costessey a true Village of Wildlife. πŸŒΏπŸ¦”

πŸ¦” Support Our Hedgehogs – There Are So Many Ways to Help! πŸ’š

Helping hedgehogs isn't just about rescuing them – it's about creating a community that cares for wildlife.

You can support hedgehogs by:

πŸ¦” Donating to local rescues, such as Hallswood Animal Sanctuary or , who care for sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs before they can be released back into the wild.

🌿 Supporting Hampdens Hedgehogs, where every donation helps us fund local community projects, educational resources, litter-picking equipment, hedgehog highways, awareness campaigns, and habitat improvements.

🌼 Donating plants, seeds or bulbs to help us create pollinator-friendly spaces and wildlife habitats across our community.

πŸ’° Making a financial donation – no matter how small, every pound helps us make a difference for local wildlife.

♻️ Joining our monthly litter picks or volunteering at one of our community events. An hour of your time can have a lasting impact on both wildlife and our neighbourhood.

πŸ“’ Sharing our posts and encouraging others to make their gardens hedgehog friendly is another fantastic way to help.

Together, we're proving that a community working together really can make a difference. Thank you for supporting Hampdens Hedgehogs and helping us protect one of Britain's favourite mammals. πŸ’šπŸ¦”

"πŸ¦” A busy night at the feeding station! πŸ¦”πŸ¦”πŸ¦”

Three hungry hedgehogs all turned up for dinner last night! πŸ’š

With the hot, dry weather, our resident hedgehogs are working hard to find enough food and water. If you're able to, please leave out a shallow bowl of fresh water and a small dish of meaty hedgehog or cat food in a sheltered spot each evening.

Every garden can become a lifeline. Thank you for helping our local hedgehogs through this challenging spell. πŸ¦”πŸ’šπŸŒΏ

πŸ¦”πŸ“– Newsletter Week 5!

This week we're sharing Page 5 of the Hampdens Hedgehogs Annual Newsletter, looking back at a very busy June!

Find out about our visit to the Costessey Sports Club Football Tournament, where we promoted the idea of creating more hedgehog-friendly football clubs and green spaces for wildlife.

You'll also read about our fantastic day at the Hampdens Neighbourhood Watch Family Fun Day, where we met lots of residents and shared tips on how everyone can help make Costessey a better place for residents & wildlife.

A special thank you goes to Peter and Val Ball for organising such a wonderful community event. It was a fantastic example of what can be achieved when neighbours come together for the benefit of the whole community.

It's amazing what we can accomplish when we all pull together. πŸ’š

Happy reading, and thank you for supporting our mission to make Costessey a true Village of Wildlife! πŸŒΏπŸ¦”
