Following the most recent use of the government’s Emergency Alert system, we wanted to remind survivors about how this can be turned off.

Those experiencing domestic abuse might have a hidden device that they keep safe to communicate with support networks or organisations. The sounding of an alert may make the perpetrator aware of this hidden device, putting survivors at risk of harm.

It is important to note that the alert will still sound even if your phone is in silent mode, so the only way to disable this is by following the steps outlined in the link.

Domestic abuse is sadly all too prevalent and is experienced by millions of people across the UK every year.

The reported figures are often an underrepresentation of the true scale of domestic abuse. We know that it can take an average of 35 separate incidences of abuse before someone reaches out for support.

The new football season is underway and fans across the country will be hoping that it’s a successful year for their club!

However, as highlighted by football’s leading anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out, reports of sexist and misogynistic abuse increased by 12% during the 2025/26 season. Wider reports also increased by 25% and include incidences at professional and grassroots levels.

As we consistently highlighted during the World Cup, football is never an excuse for abuse, and it is important that we call any attitudes and behaviours that are abusive.

We would urge supporters to do their bit throughout the 2026/27 season by ensuring that football is a safe space for all and challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours.

We wanted to share these beautiful photos of our new Mindful Garden in one of our refuges! This has been decorated by some of our incredibly talented staff and residents, creating a space that is peaceful and welcoming for those that we support to enjoy.

This project was made possible thanks to money received through the Tesco Community Grant scheme and everyone that voted for us in local Tesco stores. Thank you to everyone that supported this, helping us to create a beautiful space for our residents to enjoy.

It’s International Youth Day – an annual day raising awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing young people across the world.

At Leeway, we are proud to work with young people across our services, turning challenges into opportunities and being there to support them and give them a voice.

A key part of this focuses on the importance of healthy relationships. Our team work with schools and colleges across the county to help young people to recognise the traits of a healthy relationship and how to get support if they are in an unhealthy relationship.

Not only is this vital in educating young people, but it also helps to break the cycle of abuse and provides an environment where young people can flourish.

We are so passionate about the work we do with young people and are delighted that this has been recognised by our nomination for a Norfolk County Council Flourish Award!

We recently spoke to East Anglian Daily Times about the news that perpetrators of domestic abuse will not be exempt from the prison early release scheme, highlighting the impact that this could have.

Any decisions made must consider the risks that perpetrators pose and the safety of survivors.

Suffolk domestic abuse charities and survivors have called on the government to make domestic abusers not eligible for early release.

Today is International Cat Day – a celebration of all things cats and a chance to raise awareness of their welfare.

We wanted to take the opportunity to raise awareness of an excellent scheme supporting those experiencing domestic abuse. Lifeline (formerly known as Paws Protect) is run by Cats Protection and gives cats a temporary foster home while their owner receives support.

Many cat owners will not want to leave without their beloved pet behind but are not able to take them into refuge with them. Lifeline ensures that cats are safe and well looked after whilst their owner gets support, before reuniting them when it is safe for them to do so.

This fantastic scheme helps to break down some of the barriers that can prevent survivors from accessing support and really does provide a “Lifeline” to those who need it.
