Today we ran our first ever Special Olympics competition. The weather was kind, giving us perfect conditions for players and their families.

None of the team had played a proper match before, and they were brilliant. The matches were tight, and as the day went on, you could see confidence and consistency grow. We’ve never seen them serve so well.

Elliot and Macey did a fantastic job organising everything and kept the play running smoothly. It was also great to see so many family members there to watch and support the crew.

Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen — we’ll definitely be doing it again.

Great session, so pleased we are getting lovely weather for it as well :)

It was great to welcome Mark Bullock from Bright Ideas for Tennis to the club. Mark has a wealth of experience of working with top level Visual Impaired players and he was kind enough to show us some of the things he has learnt along the way. We were interested in learning his approach to coaching VI players and for techniques we could integrate. It was a fun and informative session and gave us lots of food for thought.

Sometimes it is the little things that count!

Long time on the list has been making things a little easier for the players who come to visit us at East Anglia Tennis & Squash Club.

Having spoken to Vision Norfolk they provided expert advice on what we could do make things easier for visually impaired players.

As part of this we purchased and installed high contrast signage to make it easier for people unfamiliar with the club to navigate their way around. This should make things a little easier and reduce the anxiety of being in a unfamiliar place.

Next one of our volunteers installed contrasting edging in the key traffic areas used by our VI players. Edging on stairs to avoid trips and edging on courts to allow the players to feel the step before arriving/exiting.

Satisfying jobs to get ticked off the list ✔️
