📖 A fantastical evening in Northwich

Did you know our very own Northwich station volunteer Jim Stanley is also a musician, artist and storyteller?

Jim is bringing his original tales about the wonderfully fantastical town of Northwich to The Salty Dog on Tuesday 1st December at 7:30pm.

Expect quirky stories, local character and a little bit of the unexpected, performed, as Jim puts it, without a safety net!

What’s happening along the Mid Cheshire Line this October half term? 🍂

We want to help families, visitors and local people discover all the brilliant things happening along our line during the school holidays!

From family friendly activities and Halloween events to workshops, days out, local attractions and hidden gems, we’d love to hear what you’ve got planned.

Drop the details in the comments or send us a message, and let’s help more people discover what’s on their doorstep, and encourage them to travel by train to enjoy it 🚂

A train journey might be part of someone’s commute, a trip to see family, a day out with friends or simply a reason to get out of the house. The places and connections we sometimes take for granted while we travel can really matter.

A friendly face at a station.
A conversation with someone you haven't seen for a while.
Getting off the train somewhere new.
Having a bit of time to yourself.

This World Mental Health Day, we’re thinking about the importance of listening to people’s experiences and making sure people feel heard and connected. The theme for 2026 is 'Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change'.

Look out for each other, listen and if someone asks how you are, make time for the answer.

It’s National Curry Week, so naturally we’ve been thinking about one very important question - where can you get a cracking curry along the Mid Cheshire Line?

From Knutsford to Northwich, there are some brilliant local restaurants within easy reach of the railway - which means you can leave the car at home, hop on the train and make a proper evening of it.

🍛 In Knutsford, you could try Mowgli Street Food Knutsford, Shamoli or Margao Street Food Knutsford.

🍛 In Northwich, there’s Bombay Quay, Northwich Tandoori and Relish Tandoori.

So that's dinner sorted. The only difficult decision left is what are you ordering?👇🌶️

There’s a very specific kind of satisfaction that comes with getting the train 🚂

You leave the house knowing you don’t have to find a parking space, you get on, sit down, and suddenly that bit of the day is someone else’s problem 😅

You can stare out of the window, finish your coffee, listen to a podcast - or just do absolutely nothing for a while 😌

Before you know it, you’re there! No sat nav or are we nearly there yet? (well we can’t guarantee that 👀)

Cloughwood Academy’s fun day out by rail 🚂

Students and teachers from Cloughwood Academy in Northwich had a fun day out by rail back in July when they visited the Museum of Illusions in Manchester.

As you will see from the pictures, they had a great time visiting this museum with its fun interactive exhibits which explore the science behind optical illusions.

The party also enjoyed food and drink and exploring the sites and sounds of the city. With grateful thanks to Trans Pennine for funding this trip and to Northern for supporting the train travel.

The Cloughwood Academy will be lending a hand at Greenbank station so watch this space for more news on the schools activities.

The Mid Cheshire Line isn’t just tracks, trains and stations. It’s the people who give their time, share their skills and care about the communities along the railway that really bring it to life.

Our volunteers get involved in all sorts of things, from looking after station gardens and helping with community projects to supporting events, sharing local history and making our stations feel more welcoming. You don’t need to be a railway expert. You don’t need loads of spare time. You just need a bit of enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.

You might meet new people, learn something completely unexpected, discover more about your local area, and have the satisfaction of looking at a station and thinking “I helped make that happen.”🌱

If you’ve been thinking about getting involved in something local, why not make this the time?
