🚂 Step back in time at Northwich Station!

There’s still time to explore our Railway History Exhibition, currently on display in the station ticket office until Monday 7th September. Discover how the railway helped shape Northwich, from its booming salt industry to the people and places that brought the station to life.

And if you missed local railway historian Trevor Booth’s fascinating talk last week, you’ve got another chance! Trevor will be back at 2:30pm on Saturday 5th September to share more stories and historic photographs from Northwich’s railway past.

Despite the weather doing its worst, 15 people joined local railway historian Trevor Booth at Northwich Station to discover how the station and surrounding area have changed over the years.

With Trevor’s own connection to Northwich Station, having worked there himself, it was a fascinating insight into the town’s railway past. A huge thank you to Trevor for sharing his knowledge and bringing Northwich’s railway history to life!

And here's another little twist: despite its name, by the 1880s around two thirds of the Cheshire Lines Committee's network was actually in Lancashire! 🤯
So next time you're travelling along the Mid Cheshire Line, you're travelling on a route with a surprisingly complicated backstory. Who knew railway history could be this dramatic? 😂🚆

A fantastic day out on the Mid Cheshire Line!

Yesterday, 22 members of Chester Vision Support enjoyed a special Music Train journey from Chester to The Railway Inn, Mobberley.

The trains ran like clockwork, the rain held off and the group were treated to an afternoon of pop, rock and folk classics from Altrincham based duo The Weltones. It was brilliant to see everyone enjoying the music, food and good company.

A huge thank you to Northern for providing free travel for the group, Mid Cheshire CRP for contributing towards their meal, Ann Pickup, Ali Warrington and Sarah Muir for organising and hosting the event, and the team at The Railway Inn for their wonderful hospitality.

Another great example of how community rail can bring people together and create memorable days out. 💚

The Mid Cheshire Line is about so much more than trains. It’s about the communities, stations and people that bring the line to life and our amazing volunteers are a huge part of that.

From helping care for station gardens 🌱 to supporting events, sharing local stories, getting involved in community projects or simply helping to make stations feel more welcoming, there are so many ways to get involved and you don’t need to be a railway expert. You just need a little time, enthusiasm and a willingness to make a difference.

✨ Meet people in your local community
✨ Learn new skills and discover more about the railway
✨ Help make your station a better place
✨ Get involved in projects you can genuinely see the impact of
✨ And, most importantly, be part of something that connects communities

You might start by volunteering for a few hours and end up becoming one of the people who makes your local station feel like your station. 💚

A freshen up for Hale Station! ✨

The entrance hall at Hale has had a fantastic refresh this week, thanks to the brilliant team at Alexander Knight.

Clean walls, freshly painted skirtings and a much needed clear out have made a huge difference to the space and it’s looking so much fresher already! 🌿

A special thank you to Murray Patt, one of our Friends of Hale Station, for bringing his team on board and helping turn this community project into reality.

Thank you to everyone involved in giving the Station some much needed TLC. 💚

In 1863, the railway came to Northwich, and it changed the town forever.

Now, local railway historian Trevor Booth is inviting you to discover the stories behind that transformation on a free guided walking tour of Northwich.

Over the course of an hour, you’ll explore the history of:

🚉 Northwich’s original railway station
🚂 The busy locomotive shed
🧂 The branch lines that played a vital role in the town’s salt industry
🚗 And the story of Britain’s first fatal collision between a train and a motor car

Whether you’re a railway enthusiast, a lover of local history, or simply curious about the stories hiding in the places you pass every day, this is a brilliant opportunity to see Northwich, and the Mid Cheshire Line, from a completely different perspective.
