Northants 4x4 Response Northants 4x4 Response is a Registered Charity, providing all-terrain logistic support to the essential services across Northamptonshire.
(1)

This includes Police, Fire and Rescue, Hospitals, NHS, the Local Resilience Forum and lots of local charities. The Team (RT) was formed in December 2008 when it was noticed by Northants4x4.com members that Northants was not represented on the national response scene with its own team. The members of the Northants4x4 forum where mobilised to form a local team for the county. Going into action for t

he first time in February 2009, the Northants team has become one of the country’s most active groups with in excess of 50 members and over 10,500 miles covered of support journeys. The group has attracted positive attention from both local press and regional television. What is Northants4x4 Response? With a seemingly increased risk of weather extremes and in circumstances where outlying locations or uneven terrain are involved the emergency and voluntary services often find themselves without the correct resources. The purpose of the team is to provide an all terrain vehicle back up service to support the local Emergency services in the times of need, usually adverse weather conditions. The vehicles can be used in non front line activities to allow the professional services to concentrate on the matter in hand whilst the Team's 4x4 vehicles are providing all terrain support logistics as required. The Team is a registered charity that has voluntarily provided valuable support in these circumstances in all weathers, day and night 365 days a year. But it is not a breakdown, recovery or rescue service. Resources
The member’s vehicles are a variety of all makes of 4x4 equipped with levels of items that allow them to cover the counties terrains in all weathers. This equipment includes recovery straps and winches through to deep water wading capabilities, as well as essentials like fire extinguishers, first aid kits, blankets, CB radios, OS maps etc. There are over 50 members across the county who are available to be called up for support. These are centrally controlled by the duty controller by way of mobile phone, SMS or radio, CB. Training is provided by the Group as well as by local authority resource. Aims of the Team
The Aim of the Team is to provide a reliable and professional support service that the emergency and voluntary services can depend on. It will provide this by mobilising trained drivers in suitably equipped vehicles at the correct time. What a brilliant morning for Northants 4x4 Response Water Team 🌊🚙
Our volunteers were out on the water taking part in hands‑on training — practising throw lines, team coordination, and real‑scenario water rescue drills.
The commitment, teamwork and energy from everyone was incredible to see.
These sessions keep our team sharp, confident and ready to support our communities whenever we’re needed.
Thank you to every volunteer who gave their time today, and to everyone who continues to support the work we do across Northamptonshire 🧡

We know we are a little late to the party but we still want to say thank you to all our volunteers.

🌟 Volunteers' Week 2026 🌟

This week, we're celebrating the incredible volunteers who make Northants 4x4 Response possible.

Our team members freely give their time, skills, vehicles, and expertise to support our communities, emergency services, and partner agencies when they need us most. Whether it's assisting during severe weather, supporting community events, helping vulnerable people reach vital appointments, or providing resilience support during major incidents, our volunteers are always ready to respond.

Behind every deployment are countless hours of training, vehicle preparation, planning, fundraising, administration, and teamwork. Every volunteer plays a vital role in ensuring we're prepared to help when called upon.

To all our volunteers; thank you for your commitment, professionalism, and dedication to serving the people of Northamptonshire and beyond. Your efforts make a real difference, often in challenging conditions and without seeking recognition.
We are proud to have such an exceptional team and grateful for everything you do.

Hot weather can make rivers, lakes and canals look like the perfect place to cool off; but open water can be far more dangerous than it looks.

Cold water shock, hidden hazards, strong currents and deep water can quickly turn a fun day into an emergency.

While we’d always encourage safer places to swim and cool off, if you do choose to enter open water, please be prepared and know what to do if things go wrong.

✅ Never swim alone
✅ Check the depth and conditions first
✅ Stay away from edges and fast-flowing water
✅ Keep dogs on leads near water
✅ If someone gets into difficulty: Call 999, encourage them to float, and throw something that floats — never enter the water yourself

Respect the water. Stay safe. Look out for each other.
