Headway Northampton is a specialist resource centre for those that have suffered the trauma of brain injury, either traumatic or acquired. Our aim is to inspire our Service Users to find a positive outlook towards their injury and its consequences. We actively encourage Service Users to be positive, to keep moving forward, planning for the future. Headway Northampton offers help, support, and advi

ce to any person who has sustained a traumatic or acquired brain injury at any time of their lives. All our workshops are aimed at improving cognitive skills, behavior and self confidence, and learning new skills, and having fun in a safe, social environment. our day service is open to anyone who is aged between 16 and 70 and resides in the county of Northamptonshire. Our staff are experienced and motivated in offering help and support within the unit. we intend to lead by example, whether this is through appropriate dress and behaviour, or being part of a group enjoying the company of others. We also offer a selection of homemade food for lunch as well as a takeaway service. All of the food is at a low cost to Service Users. We take referrals from any professional who is working with the brain injured person, and also from relatives, carers, and the brain injured person themselves. Once we have received a referral, Headway Northampton aims to respond within 7 working days. An appointment will be offered to come to the unit and look around,to see what we do. During the visit we will complete our own brief assesment so that we can establish what support will be needed within the unit, what workshops we feel would be suitable and what help we can give. The offered placement will be subject to funding. Our Charity Number is 1158332

Thank you to everyone who came along to the sale today. We've managed to clear lots of items and are grateful to the many people who added a donation to thier purchases.

A particularly huge thank you to our team of volunteers who spent a sunny Sunday with us, making today possible.

The unit is closed tomorrow, with the exception of pre-arranged collections.

We will be continuing to advertise remaining items for sale.

Today is going to be such an emotional and desperate day for the clients that come to Headway Northampton because it is the last day for them because we have had to close down . Margot was on the radio and to as were some clients and relatives but so difficult to make the media and others understand that we are not a branch of Headway UK we are completely separate from not only Headway UK but also any other Headway, people think they have raised money or made donations to us but the Just Giving we set up to try to raise the money for another building has only raised £330 ! We don’t want to close we know that the clients new and old need the interaction with each other, with people that understand the sort of problems they have, where experience from one can help someone newly injured,I just can’t imagine what is going to happen to those people that are going to have a brain injury EVERY 90 SECONDS SOMEONE ATTEND A&E WITH A BRAIN INJURY , and yet Northampton will not have any specific service for them. The referrals to us has not stopped, they are coming from desperate relatives, Hospitals like John Radcliffe, and Coventry and Warwickshire as well as Social Services, etc etc There is a need for a service like Headway Northampton - I don’t want anyone to feel as I did over 40 years ago when my mum rang from the hospital to say “it’s bad, the police are coming for you” when my brother sustained a severe brain injury , there was no support for us then which is the reason Mum searched and worked hard to makes sure there was and Headway Northampton was born

Let’s hope someone somewhere can understand how important it is that we get a suitable building or the money to adapt the one we found
