All of us at Liberty are really proud to see one of our members, Thea Nutt performing this Summer with Spartans Drum & Bugle Corps who are based out of Nashua, New Hampshire in America.

Thea, 17, joined Liberty when she was 14 years old following a Liberty presentation at her school assembly.
The colourguard demonstration was given by Riana Ao another one of our members who travelled to America to perform with The Spartans.

Thea is the 7th member of Liberty to spend a Summer performing with Spartans Drum & Bugle Corps, and the 9th member to march with a DCI corps whilst a member of Liberty.

For a small community based youth group in England, that’s something we’re super-proud of.

Thea has so far performed at competitions in Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas and Texas and will shortly be travelling to Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Kentucky before arriving in Indianapolis for the World Championships.

All this started with a 20 minute presentation at her local school...followed by lots of hard work from Thea.

Huge thanks to everyone at The Gavin Woodhead Scholarship Fund and WGUK: Winter Guard United Kingdom for supporting Thea’s trip.
We’re looking forward to watching some of her performances…and then hearing all about it when she returns to Liberty in the middle of August.

It’s been a busy Summer at Liberty!

After a Winter performing indoors we moved our performances outdoors at the British Youth Band Association (BYBA) competition in Leicestershire, had a wonderful weekend’s residential camp…and then wrapped up our 16th competitive season just over a week ago at the BYBA National Showcase held at the Derbyshire County Show.

We played our PROTEST! show for the last time and really improved our performance and score since the last competition.

We were thrilled to win the following in the Championship Class:

🏆 Best Wind Section

🏆 Best Field Visual

🏆 Best Visual Effect

🏆Best Colourguard

🏆Championship Class Winners

Congratulations to 1st Ibstock Scout Band who won the cups for Percussion and General Musical Effect in the Championship Class and to Phantom Knights for winning the Premier Class.

It’s been a really strong year for Liberty's Band and Colourguard:

🥇 Junior Class Winners - WGUK: Winter Guard United Kingdom 🚩

🥈 Silver Award - SoundSport UK

🥇 Championship Class Winners - British Youth Band Association

🥇 Lottie Railson - British Youth Band Association’s Young Musician of the Year.

Over the Summer we’ll be running some Liberty Experience sessions so local 11-16 year olds can come and get involved... and see if they’d like to join us for our next season.

Huge thanks to Northampton Town Council and the Wilson Foundation for their support in helping make this happen. 👏🙏

Wishing everyone in the marching band world a great Summer! ☀️

Amongst the many wonderful days that Liberty has had over the last 18 years, Saturday was right up there with the very best!

At the British Winterguard Finals Liberty’s Colourguard became 2026 Junior Class Champions!! 🏆

It was a really wonderful way to finish a season packed full of unexpected successes. Massive congratulations to these 8 young ladies who pushed themselves to perform and achieve beyond what they thought they were capable of.

Huge thanks to Connor Ross Jones, Mollie Gover and Danny Goodier for bringing “Another Day of Sun” to the floor....and also to the supporters and parents who gave lifts, drove equipment, painted, and made sure it all happened. 👏👏👏

Thanks to Northampton International Academy for their support.

Thanks to everyone connected with WGUK: Winter Guard United Kingdom for all their hard work in running the regional shows and Championships.

We really appreciate you all 🙏

A couple of weeks ago Liberty had a memorable trip to Wivenhoe......and tomorrow we go again, but this time to Worcester for a WGUK: Winter Guard United Kingdom and DCUK : Drum Corps United Kingdom competition

So what was memorable?

Well before we'd even performed our minibus had broken down not once but twice on the M11! 😫
However a wonderful service from the breakdown company and the van hire company saw 3 taxis despatched to get us to the competition. 🙏

And then the colourguard arrived with about 90 seconds to go until their performance. They literally ran to the performance area kicking their shoes off, putting their costumes on........and then they only went and won! 🥇
The first time Liberty's colourguard have ever won a Winterguard show!!!

The band then took to the stage and gave an early season version of their 2026 show - Protest.

Giving their debut performances were new members Scarlett, Emily, Sophia, Angie and Robbie...and they were all amazing!
👏👏👏👏👏

A really memorable day!
We're hoping for another great day tomorrow...but perhaps with everything running a bit smoother!

Liberty's band will be performing in the SoundSport show and will be debuting the first 2 pieces from our 2026 production - PROTEST!

We can't wait!

16/01/2026

On Sunday, Liberty's colourguard will travel to Stoke on Trent to perform their 2026 Production - 'Another Day of Sun'

We'll take you to a sun-drenched spring afternoon in the park to enjoy.....another day of sun ☀️

We're super-excited to be performing in the Junior Class on this year's WGUK: Winter Guard United Kingdom circuit and are looking forward to seeing all the new shows this weekend!
