NRC Specialist trauma informed services for anyone 14+ who has experienced sexual violence or abuse. We offer free confidential support face to face or online.

Set up in 1986, Northamptonshire R**e Crisis (NRC) is an independent charity that supports people who have been sexually abused, assaulted or r***d. Over the past 35 years we have supported over 15,000 local people who have been impacted by sexual violence. Our support is available regardless of when the sexual violence against you happened, whether it was fifty years ago, or fifty minutes ago, wh

ether it was a single attack or ongoing abuse. Our team offers specialist, independent and confidential help and support for both men and women, as well as young people aged 14+. We can help to explain police, legal and medical procedures. We can provide help regarding C.I.C.A. We can offer support for non-abusing partners, friends and family. These services are confidential non-judgemental and free of charge. The crimes of r**e, sexual assault and sexual abuse have multiple and wide ranging impacts. Victim's of these crimes may have difficulty in concentrating or sleeping. Their emotions may include fear, anger, disbelief or even shame because of what has happened.

* A r**e victim has no choice; their consent was never sought or considered.
* They are not to blame for what has happened.
* The majority of victims are r***d by someone they know and therefore initially felt at ease.
* The majority of r**e and assaults are carried out either at the victim’s or assailant’s home.
* Anyone regardless of status, age, class and background can be a victim of these crimes.

Sexual offence investigations in the UK are taking years and survivors are paying the price.

R**e Crisis England & Wales’ super complaint exposes what we see every day: cases left to stagnate, communication that disappears for months and a justice system that treats sexual violence as low priority.

These delays aren’t just “unfortunate.” They are harmful, inhumane and preventable.

Survivors lose jobs, education, mental health, relationships and hope while waiting for the police to act. Children miss school. Families fall apart. People live in fear for years because the system doesn't prioritise them.

This is not justice. This is systemic failure.

Survivors deserve a justice system that treats sexual violence with urgency not indifference.

If you’re angry, you should be. Share this and stand with us as we stand with survivors and demand better.

NRC Statement: We are deeply concerned by the recent cases in Hampshire where two girls were r***d, the perpetrators were convicted yet no prison sentence was imposed. This outcome reflects a justice system that continues to prioritise the futures of boys over the safety, wellbeing, and futures of girls.

This is not an isolated incident; it’s part of a wider pattern. Across the country, survivors of r**e and sexual violence face a system shaped by patriarchal norms, minimisation of harm and sentencing guidelines that routinely lean towards leniency for boys and men, even in cases of serious sexual violence.

Girls and women are expected to absorb the trauma. Boys and men are protected from the consequences.

We are pleased the Attorney General has referred the case to the Court of Appeal and hope to see a more appropriate sentence for these perpetrators. We stand with survivors and we will continue to demand a justice system that protects them.

Thank you to the 1,211 of you that have chosen us as your cause 💜

When you choose Northamptonshire R**e Crisis as your Local Co Op Community Fund cause, every time you buy selected Co op products, a small amount is donated directly to us. These contributions help us provide free, trauma informed counselling and support for people affected by sexual violence.

And here’s something many people don’t realise: You don’t need to live in Northamptonshire to choose us as your cause. Anyone, anywhere in the UK with a Co op membership can select NRC and make a real difference.

Your everyday shopping can help survivors access the support they deserve. Thank you for standing with our community.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled against a company promoting so called “self swab r**e kits”, finding several of their claims to be misleading and unsubstantiated. We know survivors of r**e or sexual assault in Northamptonshire may have seen these adverts, and some may have bought a kit, and this news may feel confusing or worrying.

If you’ve been affected by these adverts, or you’re unsure what to do next, you’re not alone. See post for full contact details and what you can do next. Please get in touch if you’ve been affected or share to help us reach anyone who may be affected.

Every year from 1–7 June, Volunteers’ Week celebrates the millions of people across the UK who give their time, energy and compassion to support their communities. It’s a national moment to recognise the impact volunteers make.

At NRC, Volunteers’ Week is especially meaningful. Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do. They help create safe, trauma informed spaces for survivors, support our services behind the scenes, strengthen our outreach, and bring warmth and humanity to every part of our organisation.

This week, we’re joining the national celebration to say a huge thank you to every volunteer who has given their time to NRC, past and present. Your commitment helps us reach more survivors and offer specialist support to survivors across Northamptonshire.
Volunteers’ Week reminds us that when people come together with care and purpose, communities become stronger and more compassionate.

To every NRC volunteer: your time truly changes lives. We’re so grateful for you. Please join us in saying thank you and celebrating the amazing contribution of our volunteers 💜🎉

Our official celebration is taking place on Saturday so here are a selection of photographs from last year's Volunteers' Week 👏

Sexual violence is far more common than most people realise. According to R**e Crisis England & Wales, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 18 men have been r***d or sexually assaulted as adults. Yet 5 in 6 women and 4 in 5 men who are r***d never report to the police.

Every week, more survivors reach out to NRC for specialist trauma informed counselling and demand is higher than our funded capacity.

Right now, survivors in Northamptonshire can wait from 8 weeks upto 6 months to begin counselling. With your support, we can bring that down.

A donation of any size helps us fund more specialist counsellors, offer more weekly sessions and reach survivors sooner.

If you’re able, please help us reduce waiting times and make sure no one has to wait longer than necessary for the support they deserve.

Use and share the JustGiving donation link in bio and in stories if you can help today 💜

Not being believed can take many forms. Even well-meaning friends or family can get it wrong.

At NRC, we want you to hear something different:
We believe you. We listen. We take you seriously. And you deserve support that is safe, specialist, and free from judgement.

If this scene from ITV’s Believe Me resonates with you, please know you’re not alone. When you’re ready, we’re here 💜

Reaching out can feel daunting, so here’s what to expect with NRC.

You choose how to contact us, a trained team member gets back to you, and we invite you to an initial conversation about what you need. Together, we explore your options; counselling, group art therapy or ISVA support.

Average waiting times can vary from 8 weeks to 6 months for counselling and ISVA support and we will always give you a realistic waiting time at your initial assessment. We have other ways to keep in touch while you’re waiting, including our telephone helpline which is staffed by trained counsellors and available throughout the week (see post for times) 💜

You are not “too much”. You are not “too sensitive”. You are a human being who has lived through something overwhelming and your body and mind are doing their best to keep you safe.

Many survivors tell us they’ve been made to feel dramatic, emotional or “overreacting”. But trauma can heighten sensitivity, instincts and emotions. It can make you more alert, more cautious, more aware. None of that means there’s anything wrong with you.

If you need someone to talk to or a space where you don’t have to explain or justify how you feel, we’re here.

Autistic, ADHD and other neurodivergent survivors may experience trauma differently and they may need support that feels predictable, sensory aware and paced around their needs.

At NRC, we adapt our services to each person. That might mean clearer structure, written communication options, sensory adjustments or simply taking things slowly.

Whatever your specific needs, we are here to help. You can call our helpline or go to our website to self-refer. Save this post for future reference or share to help others find our services.
