It's the final day of and the first day of December... Christmas songs are on the radio, 2025 starts next month, and the festive bake is on sale in Greggs.

📷General tree gorgeousness 🌳

Firstly, let’s celebrate trees and the legacy of , which launched this event in 1975 to combat the devastating effects of Dutch elm disease. Born from a need to heal our landscapes, it’s now a call to plant, protect, and cherish trees for generations to come.

We've loved celebrating this week and discovering incredible tree-planting initiatives across the UK and beyond. 🌿 As the winter planting season begins, stay connected with us for updates on our tree events and exciting new partnerships taking root! 🌳✨

All money raised will be spent on our woodland projects or donated to other woodland and local charities. This year we will have trees for sale on all six Saturdays and Sundays from Saturday 30th November until Sunday 15th December. If weekends are no good for you, please contact us at : [email protected] and we’ll try to sort something out.

As usual, we would be very grateful if you would tell all your friends, neighbours and colleagues, about our trees (and the woodland walks). Please forward this email and the attached flyer to anyone else you think may be interested. It would be great if you recommend us via any of your social media sites, or put up the flyer where you can.

More info if you’ve not been before

For those who have not had a tree from us before, we have been selling freshly cut Christmas trees from the woodland since 2009 to raise funds for Leadburn Community Woodland or other woodland charities. We need to cut down these self-seeded non-native Christmas trees to make sure that they don’t grow too thickly in the woodland before long term being replaced by our planting of native Scots pines.

We have lodgepole pines for sale which are lovely soft-needled pines which are great for holding their needles and should last well into January. We also have sitka spruce, which some people prefer as they have more branches and smaller needles. The sitkas will shed more needles but are usually fine if you keep them in a water stand.

Access to the tree sales is from the layby off the A703 about a mile towards Peebles from the Leadburn junction. Prices this year will be £20 for small trees (less than five feet tall), £25 for a 5-7 ft tree, or £30 if bigger. As always, we’ll have the usual mixture of all shapes and sizes, all freshly cut from the woodland. Many will be cut less than a week before you buy them, and we keep them in top condition by standing them in water in our ditches. Bring your wellies and a saw if you want to cut your own.

More about the woodland

Leadburn Community Woodland continues to be a popular walking area for locals and visitors from further afield, enjoying the trees, wildlife and views. The whole woodland is managed by a dedicated team of volunteers, looking after the habitats, paths and the administrative side of running the charity. In 2024 the Christmas tree income funded work on our raised bog towards our western boundary which should help it to retain water, improve biodiversity and capture carbon. We also continued to improve the paths, manage the young trees we’ve planted recently and removed many invasive sitka seedlings.

As always, you can also come along at other times of the year to walk around and enjoy the woodland site and explore for yourself. Visit the website: https://leadburnwood.com. or Instagram page to find out more.'

Happy GREEN FRIDAY! And happy Day 7.

Let's think about why you might NOT want to volunteer with More Trees Now...

1. You might end up with free trees. Suspicious right?
2. The volunteering takes place OUTSIDE! Why be outside when you can be inside.
3. That sickening feeling of doing good might creep over you at any point. It's all very unpredictable.
4. You will meet other people, potentially with similar interests, in your local area.
5. If you volunteer you'll likely have the opportunity to learn about the trees you're dealing with and the location. Urgh.
6. Some lovely person might give you a brew and a biscuit. Who does that?!

1. Stop global warming.
2. Increase biodiversity.
3. Turn climate concerns into climate action!

🤝 Since our pilot tour across the UK and Ireland in the winter of 2023, our partnerships with those we met have continued to flourish. We are delighted to collaborate with them again this winter to keep offering harvesting and planting events. A few of our valued partners include Friends of Leadburn Community Woodland, Northamptonshire Woodland Community Volunteers, Harborough Woodland Community Volunteers, Easy Treesie, and many more! We’re also excited to announce new partnerships in the making and would love to hear from you if you’re interested in joining us.

🖥Although getting online and plugging in the laptop doesn't feel particularly conservation-friendly (I'm sure other content creators will agree), it is a highly effective way of spreading news and making connections! Help us to spread the word and continue to grow our More Trees Now community. We are also on Instagram and LinkedIn! Because we like to stay connected 😉

Day 3... Let's celebrate! 🥂

This picture was taken last month as volunteers gathered in Northampton to rescue young trees trapped in the shade, unable to access what they needed to mature.

East Hunsbury Parish Council, Climate Action - West Northamptonshire and the Northampton Woodland Community Volunteers did an amazing job harvesting trees and bringing people together! ✨

What better time to re-introduce ourselves than during !

🌳More Trees Now is a grassroots initiative budding in the UK, Ireland, Germany, and France, with its roots in the Netherlands.
🌳Our method is simple. We rescue saplings from areas where they struggle to thrive, either due to unsuitable conditions or the risk of being cleared. Once rescued, we offer these saplings free of charge, allowing them to be replanted in more favourable environments.

🌱More Trees Now is for everyone! Click below to find out more about getting involved...

This hazel seedling was planted in a forgotten flower pot by a neighbourhood squirrel! Squirrels are not just cute 🐿️ they are also little environmental heroes!🦸🏻
These calculated creatures hide nuts and seeds in the autumn to stock up for winter. 🌰
However, they sometimes forget where they buried them! This is great for the nuts and seeds which can start to sprout, rather than becoming a tasty snack. This is how, without knowing, squirrels are contributing to reforestation. 🌳
Let's celebrate these tiny heroes and remember how important just a small act can be for our environment. ✨
