2337 - Northallerton Sqn ATC

Yesterday saw Cadets from the Squadron assist at the annual Pendragon Community Trust Northallerton 10k.
Cadets carried out various roles across the morning while the Sqn OC, Flt Lt Michael Donnelly, actually took part in the race!
It was a warm day, topping 24 degrees and the Cadets were superb, directing runners and handing out bottles of water at the finishing line, directed by Sgt Granville-Twig.
We look forward to supporting this fantastic event next year!

The keen eyed from the Air Cadets may notice that Flt Lt Donnelly's race number is that of our nearby Sqn, 405 - Darlington RAF Air Cadets Fear Not 405, he did you proud too.

What a brilliant effort by the Cadets at the Inter-Squadron Athletics which was held at The Costello Stadium, Hull.
The Under 20 Boys team finished 3rd in their age group, while the U16 boys won theirs!
A brilliant effort too by the 4 girls who were able to attend and a lot of medals were brought home.
The staff are delighted with the skill and determination shown by every member of the team. You all did 2337 proud

UPDATE... 2337 Sqn finished 2nd in the entire Wing, a superb effort by our Cadets. Congratulations

Yesterday saw the Squadron take part in two local Remembrance Sunday events. Fg Off Andy Ayre plus two staff cadets lead our new intake as they paraded in the Romanby Memorial Garden at an event run by the Romanby Parish Council. At the same time the Sqn OC, Flt Lt Mike Donnelly and remaining staff took part in the main Northallerton Remembrance Sunday Parade, run by the Royal Air Force from RAF Leeming. All of the Cadets were a credit to the Squadron and their parents and were proud to take part in the commemorations.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

On Wednesday 10th September we will be holding an open evening/Intake night for potential new Cadets. The evening will start at 19:00hrs and parents need to attend with the new Cadet.
This evening gives the Squadron a chance to showcase what the Air Cadets has to offer and is a chance to ask questions and take part in "taster activities".

Today is the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day which marked the end of the Second World War. Northallerton Town Council commemorated the event with an act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph at All Saints Church. The Squadron was represented by FS Oli Blumer, the Mayor's Cadet, WO Bob MacKay, the Sqn Warrant Officer and Flt Lt Mike Donnelly, the Officer Commanding 2337 Sqn.

📣 2337 is Recruiting Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers 📣

The RAF Air Cadets relies on its cadet forces adult volunteers (CFAV) to support our cadets, help our squadrons around the UK and allow us to offer a wide-range of activities and opportunities.
Being a volunteer is rewarding and has a lot of different benefits, such as:

- learning skills in a range of areas
- developing leadership qualities
- personal development
- gaining qualifications in many different areas

At Northallerton Squadron we are looking for people to join us on parade nights to better enhance and provide a wide variety of activities for the cadets to partake in. There are many different ways in which you can assist on parade nights, these include:

- Becoming a Civilian Instructor
- Becoming a Uniformed Staff Member
- Being a Service Instructor (if you are currently serving)

Last night saw a changing of the guard at Northallerton Squadron as the OC, Flt Lt Laura Kaye handed over the Sqn Banner to the new OC, Flt Lt Mike Donnelly, on final parade.

Laura began her journey at 2337 in the early 2000’s as a cadet and, after a short break, she returned as a Civilian Instructor on 3rd October 2012. She entered uniform service on 4th April 2016 and took command at 2337 on the 30th March 2018.

In her time as OC she guided the Squadron through the uncertainty of the Covid pandemic and upon reopening of the Squadron lead a rebuild of Cadet numbers following the non-return of a lot of the Cadets on the Squadrons’ books.

Laura took a short maternity break in early 2022 which saw Flt Lt Donnelly take temporary command but she returned later that year to continue driving the Squadron forward.

Laura will now focus on the new role she has been appointed to, that of Deputy Wing Training Officer where she will, undoubtably, help provide opportunities to Cadets from across the Wing, as she did at Northallerton.

We wish her luck in the new role and are certain she will be a great success.

Flt Lt Donnelly has experience across a number of areas within the organisation, including as a Wing staff officer and has more recently been caretaker OC at 2040 Richmond Sqn

Central & East Yorkshire Wing Shooting & Fieldcraft Bisley Team have completed their first shoot at the 2025 ISCRM. They took part in the Individual 300 yards Competition and had a solid start.
