During the last weekend there were no call outs for the team but we were busy.
On Saturday, team members from Support and Operational groups attended the Scarecrow Trail event at Wynyard. The team were the nominated charity for the event.
A great day was had by the team.
Sunday was the Viking Chase fell race at Lordstones. The team organises the event and provides the marshall cover on the route between Carlton Bank and Clay Bank. The good weather attracted a field of 138 runners. After 15 years as the event organiser, this was Sid’s last.
The weekend was also the Swiftwater Rescue Technician course taking place at Swaledale and Pinkston, Glasgow. Congratulations to Paul O’C on passing the challenging course.
Earlier in the month, Carl C successfully completed the Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification.

MONUMENT COFFEE ROASTERS
The team recently received a visit from Monument Coffee Roasters who have kindly offered to support the team by donating £1 from every bag of their new Endeavour Blend sold, to Cleveland MRT. They also dropped off some lovely coffee to keep us fuelled at searches and training sessions. Thank you!

WYNYARD SCARECROW EVENT
This coming Saturday, 10th October ,members of the support team will be attending the Wynyard Scarecrow trail and competition event. Thank you to the organisers for selecting the team as the chosen charity for the event.
We will be present with merchandise, children’s games and our own scarecrow.(not part of the competition).
The event is being held on the duck pond field opposite the COOP in Wynyard .
There will be cake bake stalls and refreshments on offer too .

With the vehicles just back at the base from the last call out, a call was received from North Yorkshire Police (NYP) to assist a family with their injured dog ,which was unable to walk , close to the trig point on Helmsley Moor. A limited deployment was undertaken with one Land Rover and 4 members.
While the Rover was heading down to Helmsley, NYP contacted, to inform that the family had self-rescued the dog and assistance was no longer required.
6 team members were involved for approximately 30 minutes

North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) requested our assistance with the extrication of a mountain biker who had a hard fall and hit a tree in Flatts Lane Country Park. Some members were present at the base attending a meeting, they went in the first Land Rover to Flatts Lane. The second Land Rover followed along with other members in their vehicles heading to the RV. Those in the first Rover assisted the paramedics to extract the casualty to the ambulance. The team were stood down with a number en route to the park.
We wish the casualty a speedy recovery

AUTUMN WEEKEND PRACTICE
Sunday saw the team training in the area around Loadstones Country Park. During the morning, there was a search and rescue exercise involving an injured child. The scenario highlighted certain limitations/differences in the treatment of a child.
Later there was a carousel of basic skills to be undertaken including a child in a vacuum mattress, setting up a Land Rover to take a stretcher and familiarisation with the setup of the Incident Control vehicle.
The afternoon was a search and rescue exercise, involving the transfer of all personnel to Barkers Crag to locate the casualty. Once found and treated, there was a challenging extraction involving the use of a back up rope to raise to the location of the "virtual" air ambulance.
The day was the first opportunity for the recent prospective members to work alongside the other team members.

Not long after finishing the call out in the east of the region, the team were contacted by North Yorkshire Police (NYP) for the third call out within 24 hours.. The force requested the team to search for an elderly person who had become lost and exhausted around the area of Cleveland Way in the vicinity of Faceby/Carlton. Both Land Rovers and team members headed to the RV at Sutton Arms, Faceby. Personnel and vehicles headed south of the village to search the footpaths and forest tracks in the area of Faceby plantation. During this phase of the search the call out officer maintained phone contact with the person. Soon later, one search party located the person in the plantation. A team medic assessed the person and then he was driven back to Faceby.
Later, the persons family collected him.

The team were requested by Yorkshire Ambulance Service(YAS) to provide assistance with the extrication of an injured horse rider from a location in the Ugthorpe area.Both manned Land Rovers and other team members headed to the RV next to the A171. The casualty was treated by the YAS crew and when the team arrived, the person was loaded onto the team stretcher and wheeled the short distance to the ambulance. With the ambulance on the other side of the main road on the lane to Tranmire, the Police closed the main road to allow the stretcher to cross.
We wish the person a speedy recovery
17 team members were involved for approximately 2.25 hours.
