A wonderful Field Club trip to Nosterfield Nature Reserve and Thornborough Henges today.

Thirteen members — plus one enthusiastic dog — enjoyed a fascinating day exploring both nature and history.

There was plenty of wildlife to see and hear, including avocets, a variety of geese and ducks, skylarks, red kites, and many other birds. The reserve was also alive with a beautiful display of wildflowers.

The three Neolithic henges were once important places for large social gatherings. One lies within beautiful woodland, where the henge ditch and steep banks have created a rich habitat for wildflowers and fungi. The other two stand in open countryside, their impressive earthworks still clearly visible, although the ditches have gradually filled over time.

A great place to visit, combining wildlife, landscape, and ancient history in a truly special setting.

9 members joined us for the recording session at the Tees Cottage Pumping Station. The grounds proved to be a little hidden gem containing a huge number of plant species, the best being Field Madder, Black Spleenwort and a single Field Pansy. Plus 20 bird species were seen or heard in the 2hr session including a Kingfisher flying along the Tees. Many thanks to the volunteers who showed us round. A super afternoon!
