First crop from my new allotment, Asparagus!! Highly nutritious, perennial, nutrient-dense vegetable rich in vitamins A, C, E, and K, as well as fiber and antioxidants.

Rhubarb picked from the allotment at the weekend and donated to Cedarwood's Community Store. Rhubarb is a hardy perennial vegetable with tart, thick stalks.
Did you know the leaves are poisonous? Remember to always remove the leaves!

Let-s wish for less waste this Christmas!

This is your annual reminder that carrots and parsnips and sprouts don’t cost 5p. It might feel great to grab a bargain at Christmas, but those ultra-cheap veg deals are part of a bigger supermarket strategy: get you through the door, then tempt you with ultra-processed products designed to make us crave and overconsume.

Charging 5p for fruit and veg completely undervalues our farmers, our soil, our planet’s resources. Our mission is to tackle food waste and encourage you at home to reduce waste too: this mission is so much harder when supermarkets value veg so little. Charities like us are inundated with requests to pick up van loads of fruit and veg on Boxing Day: we shouldn’t have to take time out of our holidays to clear up the wasteful practices of supermarkets.

Supermarkets spend a lot of money at this time of year to give the feeling of indulgence, abundance, luxury… but really this = mountains of waste and over consumption.

What can you do this year to value your food? Use your leftovers. Share with friends and neighbours. Treat yourself, of course, but don’t fall for the supermarket tricks. Support local shops and producers where you can. Buy less stuff.

🎃 Happy Halloween 🎃 Many thanks to Brockbushes Farm for letting pick surplus pumpkins this afternoon. The glean team collected 276 and filled the van to the ceiling. We are now picking straws to who gets to open the van door on Monday!
