North Tyneside Art Studio

North Tyneside Art Studio NTAS offers studio spaces, a range of artist-led workshop programmes, artistic facilities, materials, activities and opportunities.

North Tyneside Art Studio is a charity and company limited by guarantee which aims to contribute to and support transformation in the lives of people with mental health problems, through promoting their engagement with the arts. We have a long track record in supporting the achievements of people who use the Studio - many have had their artwork accepted in regional, national and international exhi

bitions and projects. Many have also successfully re-engaged with society by progressing to work, education or training. The studio ethos is to encourage people to focus upon artistic development and achievement, identifying and developing strengths, rather than dwelling on problems or difficulties. NTAS is funded by North Tyneside Council, Big Lottery, Northern Rock Foundation, Lloyds TSB Foundation and the Community Foundation.

This week is with the theme "Do You See Me?" and here at NTAS we show and celebrate the things people with a learning disability can do creatively and challenge the barriers they face on a daily basis.

We offer a range of creative support and have two community programmes with sessions running every week- at NTAS II in The Forum Shopping Centre and Creative Journeys at The Stephenson Steam Railway Museum. These programmes offer a range of creative workshops and social catch ups for anyone over the age of 16 living in North Tyneside.

If you are 18+ living in North Tyneside and experiencing issues with your mental health, then you can get referred to our main NTAS studio currently in Newcastle Quays.

Last week we focussed on the process of painting and looked at the paintings of Abstract Expressionists as inspiration👨‍🎨

In the session we relaxed and enjoyed a different experience of painting, encouraging our members to not worry about perfection or the end product but to feel the benefits of being creative.

Well done everyone!

There's 10 days left to come see our exhibition as part of our Creative Confidence and Creative Recovery programmes.

Service users have created a fantastic array of artwork in response to recovery themes such as facing fears, the addiction cycle, trust and relapse prevention.

The exhibition is in our NTAS II Creative Wellbeing Hub at The Forum Shopping Centre until Thursday 18th June 2026.

Our programme is in partnership with Waythrough and North Tyneside Recovery Partnership.

For Day 6 of Volunteers Week, we are celebrating our lovely volunteer, Poppie, who has just recently joined us.

Poppie brings a warm, calm, and friendly energy to the Studio, and has been brilliant at getting to know our studio members, as well as supporting the staff with many different workshops.

For Day 5 of Volunteers Week, we are celebrating our amazing volunteer, Alex, who has been supporting our community Creative Social since March 2024.

Alex brings light, warmth and humour to the sessions, making people feel welcome and connected. Their attention to detail and organisation of creative donations is invaluable to both staff and the smooth running of the sessions, and their background in education enables them to adapt and respond to the various needs and creative abilities of people attending the Creative Socials.

Alex's approach to their own artwork; exploring line, shape and pattern allows them to share ideas and inspiration. They are a wonderful advocate of how creativity can help support wellbeing and promote connection.

For Day 4 of Volunteers Week, we are celebrating our lovely volunteer, Amy, who we've had the pleasure of working with for the past few months in the Newcastle Quays Studio.

Amy is always down for some lighthearted chit-chat. She is a natural at making our members feel welcome and her insight into illustration brings wider creative knowledge to the Studio.

Amy has described her time with us as "Inspiring, Heartwarming, Fulfilling". Thank you Amy!

For Day 3 of Volunteers Week, we are celebrating our fantastic volunteer, Lou, who has been working with us since last year.

Lou brings such a lovely energy to the studio. She helps keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes, and her friendly nature means she’s always on hand for a chat, to offer a listening ear or gentle encouragement. We're really grateful to have Lou on the volunteer team at NTASII!

Last week we did a paper-mache casting workshop with Beth, where our members learned how to use simple clay shapes to create paper-mache objects.

It was lovely to see how our members utilised the skills they've learned to discuss how to approach different shapes and details👋✨
