Scouts, along with Sea Cadets, Girlguiding, and St John Ambulance, is calling on the UK government to give all employees 35 hours of paid volunteer leave each year!

We’ve sent a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer to explain why this is so important. This change would make it easier to:
• Support local charities, youth groups, and community projects
• Volunteer during lunch breaks, work hours, or special events
• Give back to great causes—without losing pay!

With 35 hours of paid volunteer leave, more people can step up and make a difference in their communities.

We’ve also launched a petition so you can have your say! Sign now and show your support. https://bit.ly/3ETxxJq .

Happy Founder's Day from Northumberland Scouts! 🥳

The 22nd February marks the birthday of our founder Robert Baden-Powell. Each year we take time to reflect on the movement he created and the global family of 57 million young people and adults it has become! 🌍🙌

As Baden-Powell said in his last message, try and leave this world a little better than you found it, and that's exactly what we do! 👊👏

Today we want to take a moment to thank our amazing volunteers across Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland for everything they do to help young people to have fun, learn and inspire them to change the world one good deed at a time!

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Supporters of 5th Tynemouth Scouts,

I hope this message finds you well. As the Group Lead Volunteer for 5th Tynemouth Scouts, I am reaching out to our wonderful community for support. The Chair role has remained empty since 2020, and we are seeking a passionate and committed individual to take on this vital role.

The Chair plays a key part in ensuring the smooth running of our Scout Group, supporting the leadership team, and overseeing the work of the Trustee Board. This is an opportunity to make a real difference, helping us to deliver exciting and enriching experiences and developing Skills For Life for all our young people.

The role involves:

Leading Trustee Board meetings ( normally held quarterly).

Supporting the Group Scout Leader and team in decision-making.

Ensuring the Group remains compliant with policies and legal requirements.

Helping to shape the future of 5th Tynemouth Scouts.

No prior experience in Scouting is necessary—just enthusiasm, good communication skills, and a willingness to help us thrive. You’ll be fully supported by the existing Trustees, and training is available.

If you or someone you know might be interested in taking on this rewarding position, I’d love to hear from you. Please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected], or let me know if you’d like to discuss the role in more detail.

Thank you for your continued support of 5th Tynemouth Scouts—we couldn’t do what we do without you!

Best regards,

Shawn Hails.
