A niche interest subject, but it's satisfying to find queen cells from apideas where the queen has successfully emerged. Just waiting on the mating and laying which won't be long now, maybe next week.
The apideas all were given fresh fondant stores.
For the curious, the queen cells were wrapped at the sides with foil to ensure that the bees didn't break down the cell.

It was a fascinating day for delegates yesterday, covering all aspects of Bee Health, with SASA, in Inverness. It included detailed and up to date information about AFB, EFB, Varroa, Viruses, Nosema, Asian Hornet, Tropilaelaps and Small Hive Beetle.

Barbara Sandbach commented:
Yesterday's Bee Health Day in Inverness saw an upgrade from my role as volunteer to be the presenter instead, looking at Nosema infection, testing and treatment. Working with previously unseen powerpoint presentations from Lorraine Johnston, who was ill on the day, was a challenge but there was a supportive audience. Nipping back home before the series of talks started to pick up another microscope, slides and kit, there was no time for panic or second thoughts.
And thank you to SASA's Marie Carnegie for giving me a one-on-one session with the foulbrood examples in the afternoon teabreak. That'll be useful information for my practical Apiarian assessment last in the summer.
