LAND SUBMISSIONS MAPS

I attended a session on Thursday where we got an update on the Local Plan. I am a member of the Local Plan working group and the plan that we have now is in place until 2029. Recent government legislation has almost doubled the requirement for housing in the East Riding in the future and there have been several Facebook posts about this. (Including my own from a couple of weeks ago)

There is regularly a call for bids from developers wanting land to be considered for development and these are the maps for our villages. The important thing to note is that these are bids for consideration. THEY ARE NOT AREAS THAT WILL BE DEVELOPED AND IT IS ALWAYS THE CASE THAT AT LEAST 80-90% OF THEM REJECTED BEFORE GETTING TO THE POINT OF CONSIDERATION. I am attaching them only so that you can see what is being talked about.

The first steps for our next East Riding Local Plan will start shortly but it will be summer 27 before there is any information about which sites will be going forward for consideration for inclusion in the plan and the plan will not be in place until 2029.

I have campaigned against further housing in our overstretched villages since my first election and will be continuing to do so if it is the case that any of the submitted land proposals around our ward reach the point of going for consideration.

WELL DONE EVERYONE👏👏

🌱 Lib Dem Councillors Champion Expansion of "Sustainable Villages" Initiative 🌱

East Riding Liberal Democrats, including South Hunsley Cllr Margaret Corless and campaigner Mie Mie Kyaing, are backing plans to roll out successful community-led green initiatives to more local villages! 🌍✨

Following the incredible success of Sustainable Ferriby CIC, which has been helping households and community groups cut carbon emissions and slash energy bills, work is already underway to expand the scheme to neighbouring areas, starting with discussions in Swanland.

This grassroots approach directly aligns with the Lib Dem commitment to a "green transition" that tackles the climate crisis while helping ease the cost-of-living crisis through lower energy costs.

SUSTAINABLE VILLAGES

We had a coffee meeting yesterday with Simon from Sustainable Ferriby. For those that don’t know it, Sustainable Ferriby is a not for profit organisation that has done a great job helping community organisations and households and their projects in Ferriby were featured in the best of East Riding Eco Tour. Well done👏
Community organisations can benefit hugely by the resultant cost savings and get help with obtaining grant funding.

We have been helping Sustainable Ferriby to extend the initiative to our other villages and discussions have already commenced with four community organisations in Swanland.

If any one is interested in finding out more, please message me.

BROUGH SOUTH LIAISON MEETING

I attended the Brough South Liaison Meeting last night. From May 27 our ward boundary in that area will change following the recent East Riding Boundary Review. A photo of the revised boundary is below. Most of the homes in the Welton South area will be in our next door ward but Common Lane north of the railway crossing will remain in South Hunsley.

Main points of discussion last night were as follows;
- There has been a slight delay with the planning applications for the last three housing developments, public open space and footpath. This is due to discussions with Natural England about ecological matters and drainage but it is hoped that the applications can go to Planning Committee in September.
- The Common Lane railway crossing work is awaiting approval from Network Rail. When approved the work will begin to close the crossing to motor vehicles whilst keeping it open for pedestrians.
- The construction work on Home Bargains and Starbucks is on target for completion later this year. A local leisure company has expressed interest in a unit for a gym and indoor padel court.
- Common Lane resurfacing is scheduled for this financial year.
- The footpath from Baffin Way through to Common Lane should be completed within the next 2/3 months.

Grass Cutting at Grange Lane – Wednesday Morning (10th June)

The grass around the wildflower area at the entrance to Grange Lane is scheduled to be cut on Wednesday morning. To make sure the contractor can access the area safely, cones have been placed along the edge and will be removed once the work is finished.

🚫 Please avoid parking in this area overnight.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us look after this lovely space.
