Belfast Harbour regularly welcomes some of the world’s largest cruise ships, but it’s not every day that it hosts the flagship of the Royal Navy, HMS Queen Elizabeth!

Our cadets were incredibly lucky to spend the morning on board, getting a behind-the-scenes look at life aboard one of the most impressive aircraft carriers in the world. From exploring the ship to learning about naval life, it was an experience they will never forget.

As we celebrate National Cadet Week, why not think about where joining the Sea Cadets could take you? It could be the start of an amazing journey filled with new skills, friendships, adventures, and opportunities like this one.

SKILLS FOR LIFE – NATIONAL CADETS WEEK!

Being a Sea Cadet isn’t just about what you learn today, it’s about the skills you take with you for the rest of your life!

As part of National Cadets Week, today we’re celebrating Skills for Life and the incredible opportunities Sea Cadets provides to help young people prepare for their futures.

From leadership, teamwork and communication to problem-solving, resilience, first aid and practical qualifications, our cadets gain so much more than just new experiences.

Building their future – Developing valuable skills and achievements they can proudly include on their CVs, college applications and job interviews.

Confidence and leadership – Learning to take responsibility, make decisions and step outside their comfort zones.

Teamwork and communication – Working with others, building friendships and developing skills that are valuable in any workplace.

Qualifications and opportunities – Gaining recognised qualifications, practical experience and achievements that can help open doors in education, employment and beyond.

Skills that stay with them – Whether it’s knowing how to respond in an emergency, leading a team or overcoming a challenge, these are lessons that don’t end when cadets leave the unit.

SEA CADETS SAVE LIVES!

As part of National Cadets Week, today we're shining a spotlight on Sea Cadets Save Lives and the vital first aid skills our cadets learn.

From performing CPR and using a defibrillator to recognising an emergency and knowing how to respond, our cadets develop practical skills that could one day make the difference between life and death.

First aid training isn't just about gaining qualifications. It's about building confidence, teamwork and the courage to step forward when someone needs help.

Through hands-on training and realistic scenarios, our cadets learn that you don't have to be a superhero to save a life, you just need the knowledge, skills and confidence to act.

Young people learning skills today that could save lives tomorrow!

No Sea Cadet unit would be complete without its incredible volunteers!

As part of National Cadets Week, today we’re celebrating the volunteers who give their time, skills and enthusiasm to make everything we do possible.

From our uniformed volunteers who deliver training, organise activities, support our cadets and help them develop new skills and confidence, to the dedicated Unit Management Team (UMT) working tirelessly behind the scenes, every volunteer has an important part to play.

Our UMT works hard to ensure the unit is financially sustainable, properly governed and able to operate safely and effectively. From fundraising and managing finances to maintaining facilities, supporting compliance and helping plan for the unit’s future, much of their work happens quietly in the background, but it is absolutely vital.

Together, our volunteers create the opportunities, experiences and support that allow our cadets to thrive.

So today, we want to say a massive THANK YOU to every one of our volunteers.

Without you, there simply wouldn’t be a unit.

Today officially marks the start of National Cadet Week, a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the incredible work carried out by cadet organisations across the UK.

This year is particularly special as it is the first time cadet services have been recognised with a dedicated national week, shining a spotlight on the positive impact they have on young people, volunteers, families, and communities. National Cadet Week is about recognising the life-changing opportunities, skills, friendships, and experiences that cadet organisations provide every day.

From developing leadership and teamwork skills to learning first aid, water safety, adventure training, community service, and much more, cadets help young people grow in confidence and prepare for the future. Behind every successful cadet unit is a team of dedicated volunteers who give their time, knowledge, and enthusiasm to support the next generation.

If you've ever thought about getting involved, now is the perfect time. Whether you're a young person aged 10 to 18 looking for adventure, new experiences, and lifelong friendships, or an adult interested in becoming a volunteer, we'd love to hear from you.

Throughout this week, we will be showcasing everything that Newtownards Sea Cadets has to offer young people across our local area. We'll be highlighting our community work, celebrating our volunteers, sharing cadet success stories, and demonstrating the valuable skills that Sea Cadets develop in our members.

Proud to Welcome the Northern Ireland District

Newtownards Sea Cadets were delighted to welcome the Northern Ireland District to Friday night’s Veterans Parade. It was inspiring to see cadets, juniors, marines and adult volunteers from across the region come together in Newtownards and represent Sea Cadets with such pride and professionalism.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who travelled to support the event and to those who helped make the evening run smoothly. The commitment and teamwork shown across the District made the parade a memorable occasion for our unit and for the community who came out to watch.

🎉 Happy 18th Birthday, Seth! 🎉

On behalf of the UMT, Cadets and Volunteers, we want to extend a massive Happy Birthday to Seth as he celebrates this milestone today.

Watching him grow over the years from a quiet young cadet to the confident, capable young man he is now has been incredible. His dedication, spirit and development within Newtownards Sea Cadets have been a real credit to him.

Tuesday evening was a brilliant night for our Junior Cadets, as they proudly earned new badges marking the next step in their Sea Cadet journey. We were especially delighted to see JC Ella achieve both her Yellow and Green Badges, an outstanding milestone.

Their dedication, teamwork, and enthusiasm shine through every week, and we couldn’t be prouder of each of them.

Commemorating 110 years since the Battle of the Somme.

Yesterday afternoon, cadets from our Unit took part in the District’s remembrance parade through Belfast, concluding with a service at St Anne’s Cathedral to mark the 110th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

The ceremony centred on eight volumes representing the 49,000 Irishmen who fell during the Great War. One name from each book was read aloud, a symbolic act acknowledging the scale of their sacrifice.

Our cadets carried these volumes with dignity alongside the Army Cadets, in the presence of His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant, the Deputy First Minister, and the Lord Mayor of Belfast.

We extend our sincere thanks to every cadet and CFAV who supported this important act of remembrance.
