Roughfort Heritage & Cultural Preservation Society

A great start to our Men’s Mental Health & Well-being Talk Series! 👏
A big thank you to everyone who joined us this evening for the first of our three talks, and especially to Michael Boyd OBE for an excellent and engaging discussion on “The Power of Sport, Community & Well-being.”

It was great to see people coming together for an open conversation around mental well-being, resilience, sport and the importance of community and connection.

Thank you also to everyone who helped make the evening possible and to Impact Network NI and the Public Health Agency for supporting the project.

We look forward to welcoming Pat McGibbon for our next talk on Thursday 8th October.

Today, on Orange Victims Day, we pause to remember the 343 Orange Brethren and one Orange Sister who were murdered during the terrorist campaign in Northern Ireland.

Behind each of those 344 lives was a family, friends, a lodge and a community left to carry the pain of their loss.

Many were murdered while serving in the security forces. Others were targeted simply because of who they were and the community to which they belonged.

Today we remember them all, and we think especially of the families and loved ones for whom that loss remains very real.

Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

The Twelfth – Monday 13th July 2026

Members of Roughfort L.O.L. No. 1070 enjoyed a memorable day celebrating the 336th Anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne with the East Antrim Combine in Larne.

Our day began at the site of the old Roughfort Orange Hall, where Bro. Harry Geddis was presented with his 50-Year Service Jewel in recognition of his dedicated service to the Orange Institution.
We were then joined by Monkstown Old Boys F.B, before proudly floating our banner through Roughfort together. From there, we assembled with the lodges of Carnmoney District L.O.L. No. 25 in Glengormley for our annual district parade before making our way to Larne.

A fantastic day's parading followed, enjoying the fellowship of Brethren, excellent music from the bands, and the opportunity to celebrate our faith, culture and heritage alongside thousands of Brethren, bands and spectators. To round off a memorable day, we returned home and once again floated our banner through Roughfort.

Our sincere thanks to Monkstown Old Boys Flute Band for their music and support throughout the day, to Carnmoney District L.O.L. No. 25 for another excellent district parade, and to Larne District L.O.L. No. 1 for hosting this year's 336th Anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne and organising a successful East Antrim Combined Twelfth Demonstration. We look forward to joining the celebrations once again next year in Antrim, hosted by Killead District L.O.L. No. 17.

Members of Roughfort L.O.L. No. 1070, together with a Brother from Glengormley Purple Star Temperance L.O.L. No. 1551, were honoured to travel to Liverpool and Southport to take part in the 336th Boyne Celebration, held during the 150th Anniversary celebrations of Liverpool Provincial Grand Orange Lodge.

It was a privilege to take part in such a historic occasion, accompanied by the Everton & District Pipe Band, and to enjoy the fellowship, hospitality and traditions shared by our Brethren across the water.

We extend our sincere thanks to Liverpool Provincial Grand Orange Lodge for their warm welcome and congratulate everyone involved in organising another outstanding celebration.

We look forward to returning again in the future. 🇬🇧
