What a joyous May training! It was our FIRST training with BSL interpretation for the brilliant Deborah from Deafinitely Women.

Participants said:

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.💥

This was the best zoom training I have attended.💻

It's transformed my outlook for the better in so many ways.🤯

Best course I have done & a course that can empower women.🏆

Relevant, fun, appropriate and versatile for a range of participants.🥰

It is a thought provoking & incredibly powerful training experience.🧠

It's just such a refreshing & radical, common sense way to think about abuse.✊🏼

Own My Life is essential for women who have suffered abuse & need space to make sense of what they have been through.📌

I think it’s absolutely fantastic. Its focus on women who have been abused & how they can regain control of their future is a breath of fresh air.🌬️

Resources are visually friendly and simple. They have also been translated to Welsh which will have a significant impact in us supporting women.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I originally thought it was going to be a tough week as it was all online however I thought the time was beautifully structured, it seemed to go quicker than I expected.🤩

Possibly the best course I have been on, giving women the tools knowledge & confidence to be their own advocate- cannot stress how much I loved this course and all the women involved.🏅

Through this course you're going to find something you've always been looking for. You'll learn so much about yourself, and be stronger on the other side of it, & find some sisters along the way.💪🏼

I will be more mindful of ensuring that I'm not going forwards with the assumption that the risk management approach is the best for women…I will let women lead in what is good for them: they are the experts of their lives.🚺

The course has been designed to address serious issues in a very subtle way that opens up an opportunity for discussion. I feel the course is non-judgemental & makes you think about the language you use as professionals.💬

Natalie is an incredibly ‘solid’ facilitator that holds the space, the content and the emotion in a way I have never seen before - done that well. The balance of learning, practicing, discussing & moments of joy & fun meant that 5 days on intensive and deeply difficult subject matter was in fact a positive and empowering experience.❤️‍🔥

I was worried about being in front of a screen for such a long period of time: I usually fall asleep & always have done...I was very surprised at how fast the day would go by & the fact that I was engaged the whole way through!😊

This training has challenged me on language used and has given me the boost needed to keep going...it felt light hearted & not too heavy - very informative & great to be among so many women wanted to help and make a difference.💖

Mental Health Awareness Week is an important reminder of the strong connection between domestic abuse and mental health.

Many people accessing domestic abuse services are living with the effects of trauma, fear, isolation, and ongoing stress. These experiences can have a lasting impact on emotional wellbeing, confidence, and recovery — both during and after abuse.

At Safer Places, supporting someone’s safety also means recognising the wider impact abuse can have on mental health and wellbeing.

It’s equally important to recognise the impact this work can have on frontline teams. Supporting people through crisis and trauma requires compassion, reflection, and strong support systems for staff too.

Mental health matters across every part of our work — for the people using our services and for the teams supporting them every day.

This Mental Health Awareness Week (11-17 May), help us continue providing life-changing support that really does make a difference.

Great mental health care isn’t just clinical, it’s human.

It’s the kind voice at the end of the phone when you’re worried about rent and too unwell to work. It’s the advisor who listens actively, rather than waiting for their turn to speak. It’s the therapist who talks through what’s happened to you, not what’s ‘wrong’ with you.

Mind’s experts are the heart of human care for mental health, treating people as individuals, not statistics and seeing a person, where others might just see a patient. They know their communities, know their needs and go the extra mile to deliver quality care, when people need it most.
