Severn Trent have advised us that we have an underground water leak on our water supply pipe somewhere between our scout hall building in Newtown and the Severn Trent stop tap in the public footway, and informed us thst we must get the leak fixed as soon as possible.

We have dug some trial holes by hand to try to locate the leak, but the ground is incredibly hard to dig and we have had no luck so far trying to find the route of our supply pipe or the underground leak.

As a local charity our scout group is operated entirely by unpaid volunteers. We are trying not to have to make a claim on our property insurance which will increase our insurance premium, or having to spend a lot of money hiring in a contractor with a mini digger to replace the leaking water pipe, as we would prefer to spend what money we have on scouting activities and equipment for the benefit of the our scouts instead.

So, we were wondering if there are any kind hearted people out there with a mini digger and a stihl saw who are willing to come along and excavate a trench for us to install a replacement supply pipe.

If you can help us out, please email Chris our Group Scout Leader at [email protected]

Our microwave oven at our scout hall has decided not to work any longer. Does anybody have a spare working microwave oven that they are happy to donate to our scout group?

Congratulations to our Scouts that have achieved their Bronze Dragon Awards! This represents a huge commitment to camping, sleeping outside at least once every month! They've camped in snow, at -6, in tents, hammocks and under shelters 🌧️❄️☀️
Even more impressively, they've all completed it in their first year! Well done boys! 🏆

Can you help us find out more about our history?

Newtown Scouts mark 115 years, the history of Scouts in Wales dates back to 1908, with the establishment of Scout troops in the country. The largest number of Scouts and volunteer leaders in Wales is linked to the Scout Association of the United Kingdom, represented by ScoutsCymru, the Welsh Scout Council. ScoutsCymru supports the development of the Scout Association programme in Wales and has a similar organizational structure to England, with four regions and 12 Scout Areas. The organization has a rich history, with numerous landmarks and significant events that have shaped its development over the years. The Scouts ScoutsCymru People's Collection Wales

We had a great time last weekend taking part in JOTA-JOTI - a worldwide online jamboree where our scouts talked to scouts all over the world! We found out what they enjoy doing at scouts, what their school is like and played online games together! Many thanks to Ego Computers for rescuing us with a new mouse mid-day so we could keep the fun going!

Our cubs need YOU!

Our lovely little group of Cubs enjoy all their adventures with us, but we urgently need some more leaders to keep our section going or we face closure!

We’re not looking for the next Bear Grylls, just some friendly faces with an interest in everything from crafting to den building to DIY! All leaders get training provided in accessible formats, and there is plenty of support from the existing team.

We meet every Wednesday night in the scout hall, and any aspiring volunteers are welcome to join us for a taster session to see if it suits you!

If you’d like to be a part of helping our young people fuel their love for the outdoors, please get in touch at [email protected]

Please share to any community pages you can!

We had such a busy spring term we forgot to tell anyone about it!
Last term, our Cubs and Scouts had all sorts of adventures, culminating in our Easter camp for both sections.

The Cubs worked towards their Outdoor and Adventure challenges, making catapults, (many thanks to Boys & Boden for all their support), building shelters, visiting the college to learn about lambing and lighting fires. We particularly enjoyed camping outside with all our friends in the Easter holidays, and our easter orientating egg hunt in the park!

The Scouts have been camping every month this year! Last term, we have been on a night hike, where our Scouts showed off their fantastic navigation skills, learnt about astronomy, worked on our DIY and camping skills and practiced our knife, axe and saw work. We've camped out in temperatures from -4c to 12c!

Wow!! Congratulations to all our Scouts. What stories they must have shared with friends and family after this exciting event!!

They took part in a weekend of night hiking/camping on 1st/2nd March. The night hike was from Kerry Ridgeway to Sarn Village Hall, where they set up camp, with the second night spent at Newtown Scout Hut. This is part of their Dragon Award which involves camping a minimum of one night a month, for a year, a goal chosen by them. So that's 2 down, 10 to go! :)

Over the weekend, they sewed pot bags, did computer coding for the international space station, had a campfire and cooked their own meals....all part of their Skills challenges.

On Saturday afternoon the Cubs arrived and joined in for a geocaching trail around Newtown, taking them from the hut via St Mary's Church, past Sarah (Newtown Clock), to Pryce Jones and back to Dolerw Park. They used a map and handheld satnav to follow clues and find the final cache. I suspect they all slept well on Sunday night.

Our group is growing steadily and we are looking for adult leaders to help us. We currently run a combined Cubs/Scouts group and could expand this to Beavers &/or Cubs if we had more leaders. We are a friendly and supportive group, but need your help for this to happen.

If you think you could offer help of any kind please message us. We need you!!

Big thanks to the leaders and helpers who helped make this exciting weekend possible. We couldn't do it without you. :)
