There was lots of visits to be done.
Tying up loose ends.
The roadside stalls are a real vibrant place to shop. Lots of variety and colour and the women are so friendly and chatty.
We bought some food to take on our visit to Rachel's family.
We stopped by the school to collect Rachel and her brother James. Rachel was very excited to see us and stood up in front of the whole school assembly to tell them her friends had come to visit.
The family made us so welcome, mum prepared egg, bread and tea and invited us to join them to eat.
After handing out the gifts I'd taken We had a tour of the shamba, the buildings that had been erected using the sheets of corrugated tin that had been salvaged from the old roof of the house, which was replaced last year using funds raised on my West Highland Way challenge, and Rachel wanted to show me her new bed, also purchased from the West Highland Way funds.
Thanks to everyone who supported my challenge these funds have made a huge difference to the family.
The floor of the house was also concreted to enable Rachel to walk around safely indoors. Her mobility has improved greatly with the continued physiotherapy. She is wonderful wee character who doesn't let any one take advantage of her.
The family also received a water holding tank to enable them to collect rainwater from the roof.
This water is a valuable addition to the household as previously the water would have to be carried from the nearby river, for washing, drinking and watering the vegetables.

We also paid a visit to Wambui who lives in the Dundori area of the county.
In 2024 Wambui was the recipient of a well and water holding tank to enable her to extend the growing season for her vegetables in the shamba, which she sells at market. She has a great, well kept garden with lots of different veg and flowers, a couple of goats and some chickens.
She works hard to earn a small income.
Another visit whist on our travels was to Ruth and Hope's home where we were made very welcome. Ruth demonstrated her sewing skills whilst Hope showed us how she is managing to write.
She is enjoying school where she has two very helpful friends who make sure she gets around safely and see her home after school.
Hope lives with cerebral palsy and I was dismayed to discover that the compound where she lives has ten houses with only three toilets available for all the occupants of those ten houses.
One lady who lives beside the toilets has commandeered the toilet closest to her house. One toilet is not useable for some reason, leaving one toilet available for nine households!
We have no idea how others in this world have to live each day 😪

It has been too long since I last posted on the page! Life has been incredibly busy this year so far with family and work, which, unfortunately, has meant I haven't been able to get out and about much with the Twaomba Musaada fundraising stall. I am booked in to the SMCC market on 22nd August, really looking forward to seeing everyone there.
Back in February, before work became too busy I managed to get a trip out to Nakuru for three weeks.
Hellen very kindly hosted me throughout my visit.
The first couple of days were spent in Nairobi where I had the opportunity to visit two markets, where I was able to meet some of the crafters who were making and displaying their wares.
My first weekend in Nakuru was spent with Hellen, Bil and Ann, Sudanese girls, hosting Jolly, Jean and Julie who had travelled by overnight bus from Kampala, Uganda to spend some precious time together.
It was a fabulous weekend. I have been in contact with Jolly since 2017 but we had never met. It was so wonderful to meet at long last, also Jean and Julie who create the marvellous and colourful bags, aprons, bottle top pot stands and all sorts of other goodies.
We had a real cultural weekend, sharing stories, music, dance and food from Uganda, Kenya, Sudan and Scotland ( Haggis, tatties, carrots, shortbread for out Burns Supper)
The weekend was over all too quickly but we parted with promises to do it all again soon. ❤️

Twaomba Musaada fundraising stall will be at The Green Fayre tomorrow at Vibe75, Newton Stewart from 10am till 2pm. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
Supporting crafters from Kenya, Uganda and Ghana- supporting women and children living in poverty in Nakuru and supporting teenage girls in education, getting them off the streets and away from the risk of abuse and exploitation. 🇰🇪

Came across this video from a memory on fb. The items shown are all made in either Kenya or Uganda mainly. Made by crafters living in extreme poverty using items many of which are upcycled or recycled. The proceeds from all sales of items are used to support women and children living in poverty in Nakuru. More recently the support has been aimed at getting girls through their secondary education, keeping them off the streets and away from the dangers of abuse, exploitation, drugs alcohol and prostitution.
Education is a life saver and a means to a better, safer future.
Some of the crafts are available to buy in Fusion Crafts , Newton Stewart by kind invitation from Shona Wilcock .
Thank you to everyone who supports Twaomba Musaada in any way, from buying crafts and donations and supporting the fundraising stall when I'm out and about attending craft fairs.
