To anyone who is kind enough to read this. I am just an elderly man trying to help to make a difference. I have had a reasonably long life but not everyone is so fortunate and when it comes to children dying young I have first hand knowledge. My very active son, Michael when just 9 years old developed a lump in his upper leg which turned out to be cancer in the bone. It was a hectic time and a ful
l leg amputation was on the cards. However, after further x-rays it was noticed that the cancer had spread to his lungs. Surgery on his leg was cancelled and he was given chemo. The chemo in those days was just getting started and the cocktail of drugs injected into Michael made him extremely ill. He was a strong lad and fought it well but succumbed to his death at the tender age of just 10 years old. There were no charities to help then and the wounds from that experience have never healed. Thankfully, there is now a charity who can, and do help. They support the research, the causes and the treatment of childhood cancer. They also support the patient. I will never forget the day that the hospital doctors told me that there was no chance of Michael surviving. I was unable to take it in as apart from a little lump on his leg he was quite active and normal and as the doctors walked away one said, 'Michael will probably live for another three months.' Michael managed another nine months but not in a way he would have liked. The charity, 'Children with Cancer UK' was started several years later. Because of my dreadful experience I have always supported it with donations when I could. Now that I am retired I turn wood as a hobby and it seemed a good idea to sell the finished items and donate the money. That is what I have been doing for a while. However, the charity have suggested that I go into the media world of facebook. I must admit I know little about it but I am assured that the people who use it are very generous and understanding and may wish to add their support. So here I am. All the items I turn from wood are for sale at a very reasonable price and start at just a few pounds. You could buy a present for someone or yourself and the money that you spend buying that item will go to the charity. It could be a good Christmas for everyone.
